Description
Adam and Dani Davies make Cider, Perry and a bit of apple juice in a small shed nestled in the side of the Teme Valley a mile upstream from Knighton, Powys. The fruit is all hand harvested, from orchards around the Wye Valley, their current main source is between Hay on Wye and Bredwardine, Herefordshire. Trees are around 60-80 years old and is blessed with a good variety of apples The orchard is in good condition having spent the last 20 years managed organically for Dunkertons. They have their own orchard, which is very young, so until 2019 the apples just got put into blends - this year they managed to bottle a very small amount of single orchard cider which at some point will get a very limited release.

750ml bottle. Sparkling, pale yellow gold colour, fizzy white foam head that quickly dissipates away and fruity pear aroma with funky hints. Taste is sweetish and tart fleshy pear, alittle pear skin, white wine note, and some light funk and tannins. Light to medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, dry finish. Nicely drinkable

75cl bottle from Tuffins, Craven Arms. Aroma has light wild apple orchards. Pours flat. Taste has light pure juice, moderate sweetness, medium fleshy fruit, very distant dusty tannins but essentially thin and a touch watery. Barely discernible alcohol presence and does in fact taste much lighter than 5%. Needs more complexity, body and fruity flavour but generally fine.

75cl bottle from Harry Tuffins, Craven Arms. Pours a misty yellow, no discernible carbonation. Lightly sweet perry pear on the nose. Juicy-light on the palate, gentle perry pear fruits, very little tannin presence, drying close. Given Skyborry's previous ciders I did expect a confident acidity and tannic action, but it's distinctly missing here unfortunately. Nice gentle table perry, but could do with being roughened up a bit.

Box @ A Burger Shop, Worcester. Pours a misty gold, still. Aroma has some encouraging fleshy fruit. Taste is surprisingly clean with a soft tannic touch and the lightest acidity, allowing the apple fruit to shine through. Not bad, accompanied our burgers nicely.
