Amazing little Bathams pub. This wasn't on my radar at all but I was passing and, you know, Bathams Pub... so I went in. Tiny place, could fit maybe 20 comfortably downstairs. The beer isn't a surprise, Batham's mild and bitter on cask, but crucially they do have XXX and the alcohol free beer in bottle. I had a mild, very good nick, no surprise there. Piped music is unexpectedly fun (Specials and Joe Jackson). Cobs available. Absolutely worth having at least one beer here.

Keg draught at the Real Ale Classroom, Leicester city centre. Pours very, very dark brown with the thin khaki head and lots of lacing. Aroma of chocolate, a little Marmite, a little marshmallow. Taste starts with a sweet/savoury interplay with heavy caramel and salted molasses notes, turning very bitter toward the finish. Body stays on the light side with decent but not overpowering carbonation. For the ABV, I'd want more intensity, but it's enjoyable and complex.

Keg draught at the Real Ale Classroom, Leicester city centre. Light to mid-gold, hazy with a rocky and quickly dissipating white head. Citrus aroma with pineapple, and a brash metallic note. Tastes sweet at first, followed by an almost astringent bitterness. Finish is odd and artificial. Light to medium body with fairly intense carbonation. Struggles a bit with this one.

Keg draught at Tønne, Leicester. Apricot/orange, hazy with the thinnest possible ring of white head. Aroma of soured stone fruit and tangerine, a little bit of vegetable compost, some lemon. Taste is quite sour, bit citrus and stone fruit hit, with more sourness I the finish. Just dialled back that little bit. Nice mouthfeel: body may be on the thin side but spritzy carbonation keeps it fresh. After a few disappointing Vocation beers this year, Pulp Fusion makes a welcome change.

440ml can bought as a part of a delivery from RAD Beer and drunk at home. Light gold and hazy with a small and quickly disappearing white head. Gentle aroma of grapefruit, pine needle, lemon zest, some grassy notes. Initial sweetness is swept away by a medium bitterness up to the finish. More waxy lemon in the aftertaste. Lighter body than I’d expected, with spritzy carbonation. Sometimes less is more. This is good.

440ml can bought as part of a delivery from RAD beer and drunk at home. Dark greenish gold, completely hazy. Big canned pineapple aroma, some apricot, melon, a little spring onion. There's an intense sweetness in the initial sip but it fades to a serious bitterness and finishes that way. Grassy notes in the finish. It's pretty good if messy.
