440ml can as a gift, most likely from Houae of Trembling Madness in York. Drunk at home. Very dark almost purplish brown with a tint ring of tan head. Cinnamon and maybe a bit of clove in the aroma, vanilla, raisins, chocolate. Taste is sweet, more puddingy fruit to the fore, with a decent bitterness in the vinous finish. Weighty body with almost no carbonation. It's quite nice but a bit much of a muchness. Enjoyed it but wouldn't fight someone over the last can on the shelf.

Draught keg at Tønne, Leicester. Dark, dark brown and mostly opaque witha tiny ring of tan head. Aroma of chocolate and hazelnut and a little marshmallow. Taste is sweet with a little bit of bitterness - not well balanced but at least cuts the sweetness - at the finish.medium body with softer carbonation. Not bad.

Keg draught at Tønne, Leicester. Lovely light gold, a greenish hue maybe. Hazy with a ring of white head. Plenty of apricot in the aroma, vanilla malt, light berry. The taste doesn't disappoint. Balanced and sweet with biscuity notes and sweaty stone fruit. Light tropical fruit in the finish. Watery body but the intense carbonation brings it home. Great stuff.

Keg draught at Tønne, Leicester. Black with a smattering of uneven khaki head, leaving good lacing. Malty aroma, ash, berry, red grape and a little coffee in the aroma. The taste is bittersweet with an emphasis on the bitterness. Black malt, light smoke, bitter chocolate. Light to medium body with heavy tight carbonation. Loving it.

Draught keg at Tønne, Leicester. Reddish brown and pretty opaque with a small ring of pinky beige head. Aroma of flat Coke and cherry sours. Taste is nicely sour, lots of cola, lots of... cherry I think, maybe a little bit of vanilla. Like you chose all the sodas at the machine, threw up in your cup and drank it. But, much better than that. Like a really good version of that. Body's light with carbonation also on the light side. Weird and wonderful. Wouldn't have it again but I love it when breweries take risks.

Keg draught at Tønne, Leicester. Deep and slightly dark red, clear with a small ring of white head. Disappointingly light cherry aroma, a little metallic. Sweet taste, more cherry here, a little resinous. Very light body with heavy carbonation. I didn't expect all that much but it exceeded basic expectations. A decent choice for a light fruit beer.

The word micropub may be doing some heavy lifting as this pub seems to be quite Tardis-like and can easily fit more punters than you'd think on itial inspection. It was very crowded on my visit, but it's a Saturday in December. The decor goes for function rather than style although it's got plenty of the latter with plants and patterned wallpaper. The beer is superb, with 4 cask from thr likes of Shiny and Three Blind Mice with 6 keg from Brew York, Verdant, Vault City. Heavenly. The best place I've been to today.

Excellent micropub in a small town (or large village?) which used to be part of the Three Hills stable. I have been to a few of these since Three Hills closed, and there is still a surprising amount of their beer kicking around vonsidering they closed months ago. The downstairs is teeny tiny but thank goodness there is lots of seating (and loos) upstairs. The beer selection is pretty exceptional with two cask beers (on my visit a bitter from Farm Yard plus Titanic Plum Porter Reserve) and a wall of about 10 proper keg beer: Shiny, Holy Goat, Two by Two, DEYA and of course Three Hills. All sorts of styles. Cider too. Occasional music. Neat place.

Gravity cask at the Ale Pole, Daventry. Dark brown with an uneven ring of tan head. Coffee grounds aroma, some paper, some red grape. Sweet taste, more coffee with some sarsaparilla and light notes of Marmite. Medium body, very soft carbonation. All in all a bit muddled and not Shiny's best.
