Keg at the brewery tap. Dark brown, a little bit translucent with a swirl of buff head. Roast malt on the nose, some Ash, a little smoke and maybe some bramble hiding away there. Sweet taste at first, malty and lightly fruity with an ashen bitterness in the finish. Body is extremely light with medium tickly carbonation. Decent for sure.

I found it! What do I win? (Hard to find, but Google Maps is your friend.) It's smallish, brash and loud inside, warehouse-y tap style with art on the wall and lots of good beer. 12 taps, 7 either Spooktons or their collab, 4 guests (Farm Yard, Black Lodge, Lervig) and a cider. Their beer is good, not great but very decent. It's dear, but not impossibly so, and they do donate a percentage to local causes. One not to miss.

Keg draft at the Cornerhouse, Chester. Light to mid-yellow gold, pretty hazy with a tiny ring of white head and a lot of lacing. Light aroma, a little bit messy with a fair bit of apricotty Simcoe.bittersweet taste, juicy with orange pulp, stone fruit, leading to an even more bitter finish. Light to medium body with softer carbonation. Pretty good.

Handpull cask at the Bridge End, Ruabon. Light to mid-gold and crystal clear with a good-sized white head. Light fresh aroma, some light citrus. Bittersweet taste, very crisp, again, hoppy citrus notes but not overdone. Finish is noticeably more bitter. Light to medium body, soft-ish carbonation.

The Bridge End's reputation precedes it, and I was greeting in the public to exposed brickwork and conversation. Its a proper olde-worlde pub with enough renovation to keep it going without breaking character. There are seven handpumps although only five were available on my visit: Weetwood, Stonehouse, Flipside. No McGuvern today but it sounds like appearances are rare. Note that the handpumps are split between the main bar and the side (lounge I think). Very much worth visiting.

Handpull cask at the Vaults, Ruabon. Mid-gold, clear with a swirl of off-white head and lots of lacing. Fresh aroma, some lime, berries. Not getting the Simcoe but it's good all the same. Bittersweet taste, more berry, slightly astringent inches bitter finish. Light to medium body, soft carbonation. Surprisingly good.

While not a ticker's patlradise, this is a good find. It's a wine bar but the specialty does seem to be beer. Dimly lit with a Mediterranean feel, the offering here is keg and bottles. On keg you have Steady Rolling Man, Boon Kriek, Chimay 150, Duchesse, Westmalle Dubbel. On bottle you have 10 of the great and the good Belgians (Orval and the like). While you won't get many (any?) ticks, there is no doubt that this is a worthy stop. Tapas from 6pm. Lucky Mold.
