Handpull cask at the Kings Head, Leicester. Dark orange gold, clear with a small white head. Lovely aroma of tangerine, some tea leaves, stone fruit. Bittersweet taste, with lots of hop hitting around the back of the tongue. Really surprised how good this is.

Glasfryn is a brisk 20-minute walk NNE of town, past the Flintshire council offices and up to the end of the paved pedestrian path. It's an imposing building set out a bit from the road with plenty of parking. It's a Brunning and Price pub so a bit posh and restaurant-y with only the central bit open to drinkers (there are dining areas to the left and right when you walk in). If the weather is nice you can take advantage of the outside seating and the gorgeous view. Six cask beers, and it is a good selection: Neptune, Purple Moose, Weetwood, Rat. Plus a Wild Horse and another Neptune on keg. All new tome except one. It isn't cheap, but you're unlikely to be here for a sesh anyway. By no means a must-visit; all the same, nice to have all the options you can in North Wales.

The Vaults is a medium-sized open plan pub which seems bare-bones yet convivial. Clientele is a bit laddish but then the football is on. There's a beer garden if the weather is better than it is today. I hesitated to add this pub to the database, as there were only two beers on (despite there being 4 pumpclips), but they were both from the Tudor brewery in Wales. So, if you need a Blaenau Gwent tick, here ya go. Plus the display of pumclips suggests there are other Beer making an appearance, some more interesting (Rat, Electric Bear, Purple Moose) than others (Titanic). Beer is in fine conditioning cheap. You're here for the Bridge End anyway, so you may wish to walkto 70-80 seconds farther to see what the Vaults have on.

Keg draught at the Chester Station Tap. Light gold, hazy with a smallish white head and a fair bit of lacing. Aroma of pillowy malt, pineapple, maybe a bit of gooseberry. Bittersweet taste, giving me melon, pineapple and vanilla. Finish is quite bitter. Light body with carbonation on the heavy side. Pretty good stuff.

Handpull cask at the Station Tap House, Chester. Mid-brown, slightly reddish with a tight creamy khaki head. Gentle roast aroma. Ambrosial taste, sweet with notes of coffee, blackberry, almond. A hit of bitterness in the finish. Creamy body with soft to medium carbonation. My word.
