Handpull cask at the Brew Shed, Retford. Brownish gold and clear with a small creamy off-white head. Leafy English hops dominate the aroma along with a caramel sweetness and Seville marmalade. Taste starts sweet bit the gentle happiness ushers ina balance that holds sway through to the finish. Light body with fairly soft carbonation. A wonderful find.

Housed in the building previously occupied by BeerHeadZ (remember them?) , Beer Under the Clock carries on the tradition of good beer in a bright, modern atmosphere. It definitely has that micropub feel. They have five cask beers for microbreweries, mostly from the North, like Three Brothers and Blue Bee. One craft keg among the more accessible stuff, and a smattering of bottles and cans behind the bar. Cask is kept to optimal conditionals while it is on the dear side (for Retford anyhow) you certainly get what you're paying for. A must-stop in town.

Handpull cask at Beer Under the Clock, Retford. Dark brown, slightly translucent with a thick creamy beige/khaki head. Sweet aroma, some of the expected marshmallow and chocolate with a good whiff of Parma violets. Taste is extremely sweet, but obviously this comes as no surprise. Chocolate and more violet coming out. A touch of bitterness in the finish. Silky smooth body, very soft carbonation. I shouldn’t like this as much as I do.
