The Fat Boar is very much a restaurant than a bar, not really my vibe but I needed to eat so thought I'd give it a whirl. Its fairly large, with an open plan design. Beer ain't up to all that much, with a couple of Salopians on cask and normal macro on keg with the addition of Wrexham Lager and Pilsener. On balance, not the best for beer but food is god and let's be honest, pickings are a little slim in Wrexham.

The Drunk Monk is down an arcade, I did have a little trouble finding it. But I was rewarded with a decent bar and good beer once I did. It's open plan and quite large, unfortunately not too many customers in tonight. RHCP playing in the background. There are a few taps: Wrexham Lager plus and Electric Bear and Wild Horse. I found the can fridges more interesting as they seemed to focus on local Welsh craft as well as Contiental beauties. Worth coming in, you're sure to find a tick or five. Also, prices are very reasonable.

The Magic Dragon Tap is dark, a little bit dingy, but at the same time full of bonhomie and good beer. It is as bare bones as it is possible to get, no music except the music of animated conversation. The beer is mostly Magic Dragon, with 5 operating cask pumps on my visit, and a few keg taps. Bottles from the brewery to take away, and some Big Drop (low alcohol beer) cans in the fridge. On balance, this is a great place even if Magic Dragon beers are a bit pedestrian. You're unlikely to find them elsewhere in the country, although they do show up in Black Country Inn pubs from time to time. So you can fill your boots here, tickwise.

This is a pretty amazing place. So many railway station pubs are a bit blasé. Not this one; Chester Station Tap shows you how it is done. The faux opulence gives it a certain charm, with grey-green walls and ceiling. It's a Spitting Feathers bar so their beer features Among the eight cask and 15 keg but there's still room for guests. An amazing bottle/can selection behind the bar if nothing on draught entices you, or if you want a takeaway craft can. One of the better places in Chester, and that's saying something.
