Keg draught at the Two-Tailed Lion, Leicester. Pretty close to black, very very dark brown anyway. Opaque with a small khaki head. Clean chocolate aroma, a little bit of liquorice, some slightly burnt coffee. Taste is bittersweet, some cooking chocolate, espresso, Ash. Bitterness in the finish but there's nothing sharp orangutan about any of this, it is as smooth as you like. Light to medium body with carbonation slightly on the heavy side. An easy little stout.

440ml can bought to take away from Hopology, Leicester and drunk at home. Mid-gold colour, hazy with very little head. Lots of orange peel in the aroma,, sticky mango, grassy notes. Bittersweet taste. It certainly doesn’t run away with the sweetness, but has a lovely balance with the bitterness pushing through the hoppy fruitiness mid-sip. Thin to medium body with carbonation on the heavy side. Not my favourite Sudden Death beer but I still enjoyed it.

440ml can as part of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. 18 days since my last rate, wow that must be a record! it pours fairly light gold, with a loose and quickly dissipating white head. Malt prominent in the aroma alongside some jammy citrus fruits, canned pineapple and gooseberry fool. Tastes a little bit less exciting but still very good, biscuity malt with some citrus notes, a little vegetal. It’s pretty watery but the heavy carbonation lifts it up. A slightly generous 7.1.

The Fox Cub is a comfortable little micropub with a wine bar feel. It's pretty new and compact with AOR playing on the speakers. Couples mostly, and lots of doggies. The beer is what you'd expect: 3 cask and 3 keg from Charnwood. Mostly core, and only one of these is new to me but I've had a lot of Charnwood so the uninitiated may get a lot more. There are some decent pubs in Barrow but this may be the best of them, and is at least the closest to a ticking pub.
