Retired American Luddite and refugee of the 2018-2024 Ratebeer/Anheuser-Busch (InBev) fiasco. Thanks Brewver for the chance to continue rating! ....... and yes, I'll soon be a supporter! ........ Since 1968, I've enjoyed all kinds of cheap macro pale lagers, starting with Carling Black Label bottles I found in Grampa Gino's wine cellar! Later, my dad had faves like Old Mil, Strohs, Bud, Coors Light and Piels! They were all good for a budding youngster like me. My ratings aren't to style, but how much I liked it. Thus, my fave styles; lambic, wild & flemish, rate much higher than IPA since I don't like bitter hoppy beers. You like IPA? The lower my IPA rating, the better according to style! There, you have it! Easy peezy, no worries!

Quite confusing this hobgoblin ruby is for a search in the database! I bet lots of hob ruby raters get it in the wrong place. My $3 can from chalet premier is brewed by carlsburg marston, so I guess this is the correct place. Its a pounder can with an ABV of 4.5%. Pour is brown and fairly clear. Truly a brown colored ale! Nice off white head fades slowly. Sweet malty nose, somewhat appetizing. Taste is ale like, nothing like a dark lager fer sher. However, any rude ale attributes are certainly suppressed in this, its quite well behaved. Has a smidgen of bitterness and its nicely behaved. Remains calm cool and collective thru the middle. Near the finish, the bitter aspect builds a little. Even so, I'm finding this ruby beer to be very acceptable. Its hard to not compare this to the hobgob ruby ESB I tried from wychwood 18 years ago hehehehh. That one was quite good! I'm gonna have to try that one again, it looks like it tasted pretty darn good. This one? Has a way to go if it wants to be as good as the locals; East End Fat Gary's nut brown, Brew Keepers Wild and Wonderful or Coal Tippel Backfill. Probably more in line with Cervecería Cucapá Obscura, Leinenkugel Fireside and Tröegs Rugged Trail.

Pounder can from chalet premier. Pretty cool label, reminds me of those old godzilla movies from japan. Nose is friendly fresh cut pine needles. Ever so slight haze on light mellow lemonade color. Nice foamy head goes craggy before fading to 1/2". For an IPA, this is quite friendly tasting, no lie! Unexpectedly getting some lemon tartness and some nifty fresh cut grass. The IPA bitterness is low to medium and as somebody who doesn't like IPA, I find this quite acceptable on the palate. Not only that, the co2 level on this is quite nice, almost sharp and cutting. Yeah baby. Seriously, for me a macro lager lover, I'm finding this very refreshing! There is even a soda pop attitude about this at times. Many pale ales are so much more bitter than this. So much better and less bitter than lo-pitch juicy, evil twin The Pure and Simple IPA Is Rarely, even brewdog 95 and north peak wanderer. Yea, I betchah this really shouldn't be styled as an IPA except for it says that on the can. LoL. I probably should have got a sixer of this lighthearted stuff.

Can for 2.5$. Very pretty clear deep purple red. Head fades to nuttin. Interesting odd sweet off fruit aroma. Yes good apple cider flavor backed up by somewhat blackberry taste. Sweet and tart but not excessively sweet. I would never call this dry but I appreciate it does not come across like a vermont would chuck et al. I think I'm getting a little of that champagne yeast character, maybe epernay? Just asking. Yea, not bad. Can't think of another cider I had exclusively with black berries. Has a bit of that permanent hair treatment flavor on the finish.

3$ can from vintage dated sept 2025. Pour is clear amber; pale with some darker brown tint. Nice head lasts for a while. Sweeter nose. Good uptake for this one, its a little sweet but not heavily cloying like so many other domestic examples of the marzen style. Yes, a little on the thinner side but has good carbonation and holds my interest without being offensive. Clean, lightly rich, and toasty with a balance of mildly sweet bready malt and a moderately dry finish. Lighter body, smooth co2 texture, low hop bitterness. In the middle getting notes of toasted bread, crackers, and a tad of caramel. Yet, never gets heavy. I'm liking this. Right up there with Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest Märzen and Toppling Goliath Oktoberfest. S7L5F4T7O7.5

3$ can from total wine. Last beer of the late seminole 4/2026 tasting week, thank you aunt joan. Pour is almost clear light pale with a head the fades rapidly. Nose is uniquely sweet. Taste is initially bitter like mild grapefruit juice. Yes some wheat ale bitterness as well. Not sure if this is a straight up blonde, edges a bit into the flavored or fruit beer style. Now in the middle, that unsweetened grapefruit thing becomes more apparent. Decent carbonation level keeps it interesting. Before I know it, I'm to the bottom of the can. Can't be too bad. Now let's trek back to bah bah beaver county.

This stuff pours slightly hazy with a head that fades rather quickly. Can date is June 2025. No wonder why the nose is old IPA stale hops. Taste is rather nasty as with any IPA with its common bitterness but is also as a strange old world aged IPA flavor of stale hops, a strong tea bitterness character and a cheesy aged wet fresh cut grassy rotting funk. Reminds me quite a bit of the everflow everclean microbial cleaner and degreaser. You can throw in the everflow everclean handsoap and everclean dishwashing liquid as well. Well, I guess you can tell I don't care for this style and when its aged, its not any better. But I may say if you get a fresh can of this and like IPA, you may want to try it. I'm such a ticking whore and I'm surprised total wine had this at more than $3 for a can. Rude. Come on TW&M, get the shit eating old IPAs off yer shelf if yer gonna sell then at full retail price.
