Visited October 2024, just a few weeks after it opened. A rather fancy new 'Spoons - feels like Spoons felt had to up their game a bit to be accepted in this posh town (apparently a lot of the townsfolk were complaining that a Spoons wouldn't fit in, but nevertheless it was busy with seemingly happy people on my visit). Inside it's quite long and thin (but well-lit and airy) with a conservatory at the back and a mix of seating types. It actually looks quite elegant for a Spoons (although I suspect that will fade with time!). There's quite a lot of interesting history scattered around - lots of rowing memorabilia and quotes from 3 Men in a Boat, plus some detail about Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (parts of which were written nearby). Most impressively of all, in a glass case in the gents' loos (upstairs) there is what appears to be an original and very ornate belt dating from the Crimean War. So, it's an interesting place to explore. The staff were all very friendly, polite and quick to respond. There's the normal Spoons cheap and cheerful food menu of course - ours was served quickly and was hot and properly cooked. But what about the beer I hear you ask? Well, there's 8 cask pumps - 4 from the Spoons national range, 2 from their quarterly specials, and 2 "local" ones, which on our visit were from Tring (including somewhat surprisingly their Death or Glory barley wine). So overall first impressions were that this is definitely one of the nicer Spoons (as you'd expect in Marlow), but we'll have to see if it maintains those standards over time.
