Sebright Golden Ale from Hop Shed (prev Unity Brewhouse) was the one that did it!

Bottle from Gloucester Services. Deep gold with a white head and a light to moderate fizz. Decent mouthfeel, impressive for a 3.5% brew. Caramel and lemon up front, followed by some marmalade and a touch of green, leafy hop. Rather enjoyed this; too many modern pale ales focus too much on the hops, and forget about the balance and satisfaction that malt flavours can bring to a beer; this one balances the malt and hops very well. Nice one.

Can from HOTM. Pale gold with a very light haze and a thin white head. Lovely lime flavour up front. Light tropical notes, lemon squash, bread and floral flavours follow. However, I found the bitter herbal finish rather too astringent and it rather spoilt the beer for me. Shame.

Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Mid gold colour with a white head. Had this straight after JW Lees Gold, and whilst they're quite similar this one seemed rather insipid in comparison. There's some floral notes, a wisp of lemon and some white bread. It's inoffensive at best, but tending towards the thin and bland.
