his was aquired in a trade with jwc215...Thanks, Joe!

The beer pours aclear light brown-amber with a nice big head of foam that stays around forever as a solid 1 finger layer with lots of lacing.

The smell has some caramel malt, fruit, and some floral hop in the nose.

The taste is very complex and not what I expected. Lot's of caramel and dark fruit in equal quantities for me and it's very nice and very tasty. The dark fruits I notice are plum, raisin, and fig and hey, a touch of cherry is there as well. And boy, there's definitely some warming going on here but that's not interfering with the good flavours that are dancing on my palate. :^)

A few more sips in there's some vanilla and some floral hop bitter goodness that's most notable when I swish the brew in my mouth. It finishes bitter *and* slightly sweet and leaves a good long lasting aftertaste. Yummy. I like this a lot and I'm finding that it's very drinkable. Every time I take a sip and put my glass down, the flavours beckon me to take yet another sip and I obey their command!

Bottom line: I'm very impressed with this Old Ale offering from Smuttynose and can easily recommend it. See it? Buy it and sip on it. Thanks again Joe!!

Some caramel and musk. A little roast. Pours cloudy maroon with OK head. Light sweet finish. Thick consistency. A little more even than the 2012 version I just had. Tap at Churchkey.

Draft at Churchkey. Really brown color, tan edge head. Aroma of boozy butterscotch, vanilla, toast, lightly metallic. Taste is rich burnt tiast, burnt briwnies, toasted caramel, booze, candied fruit. Very nice seven year old.

Cloudy chocolate brown beer with a good cream coloured head. Softish palate, a bit dry. Rich malt with a brandy tone. Smooth and creamy - well offset by good bittering hops that come to the fore in the creamy finish. Quite a contrast but very drinkable.

Nice looks, red and clear and foamy. Smells slightly funky, and very, very sweet. Which goes well to describe the flavor. In fact, the only trait this beer shares with regular Old Brown Dog is the name. Really Old gets really sweet really fast, the sugary heart of the brew overwhelming any subtle pleasures. More hops could temper this Bit-O-Honey nature, but the needed bitterness never shows. The cloying finish betrays the meager 7% ABV. Worth trying, just not worth trying again. (2/2/09)

2008 vintage tasted 3/6/11 growler fill from DeCiciocs smutty nose tasting. Pours deep brown. Tastes of toffee, vanilla, some malt, also some drak fruits. Very enjoyable on this rainy Sunday, and since I just got back from gym might just finish this growler solo style.

2008 Vintage sampled 1/2/2009, I can’t believe it took me so long to post a review of this one. Pours a crystal clear brown color with ruby highlights when held to light. Thin head dissipates quickly. Smells of Brown Sugar, cherries, dark dried fruits, vanilla, some oak or smoke too. Very malty nose very little if any hop presence. Taste is sweet with dark fruits, toffee, sugar, a touch of alcohol and a warming finish. Mouthfeel is creamy/syrupy, body is medium, carbonation is ample. Another great brew from an underrated brewery.

Tap at Blind Tiger. Pours hazy brown with a fine, off white head. Nose is heavy with brown sugar, along with dark fruits and caramel malts. Flavor is really sweet. Tons more brown sugar, along with raisin, ripe plum, toffee and caramel. Somewhat syrupy and thick, with lingering sticky sweetness. A very deep beer with a dynamic flavor profile.
