We decided to brew this beer after Rich and Dan visited Cologne, Germany, the birthplace of the Kölsch style. They loved the subtlety of the flavor and appreciated the craftsmanship required to make a beer like this consistent and good. We were on the lookout for a new summer seasonal at the time and the Kölsch, with its refreshing flavor and crisp finish, seemed like a perfect fit.
Description: Our version of the traditional German Kölsch-style ale. This beer, which is light and refreshing, appears to resemble a lager rather than an ale. The Kölsch style is a testimony to the broad spectrum of characteristics an ale can produce, as well as the brewer’s art. The body is soft and delicate with a dry, crisp finish.

Enjoying this one in a Boston pub, as my band is playing there. Pours a mild cloudy golden colour with a little head and lace. Grainy nose and medium-bodied mouthfeel. Cereal grain wheat taste with some citrus notes. Nothing too crazy, but quite refreshing for summer. Goes down easily with decent grain.

12 oz large Kolsch glass draft at the Harpoon bar at Logan airport in Boston, Massachusetts. The pour is clear yellow golden with not much of a white head. The aroma is mild grain, light malt sweetness and a hint of grass. The taste is the grain, cracked malt toast, along with gentle yeast and a mild malt sweetness. The palate is light to medium bodied, nice bright carbonation, and some lingering yeast in the finish. Nice enough, easy drinking.

bottle thanks to nimbleprop, pours light yellow with a thin to medium fluffy white head. Aroma is big with honey and sweet corn, maybe a little lemon zest as well but overall very sweet smelling. Flavor is crisp pale and corn malts with a middle body that is lightly sweet but ends very dry. I like this.

Not a bad kolsch, such as it is. A bit of a dull gold color, foamy head. Light aroma was crackery with a little floral and spicy hop. Flavor balanced, clean and crisp with soft malts and a snappy hop finish.

Remarkably unremarkable beer. As no-frills as a Summer Seasonal can get-- grainy with a mild Euro-hop finish, bubbly, fizzy, golden, and as exciting as drywall. (5/7/09)

Had at pool hall in RI. this beer pours golden and and has citrus flavor and is certainly clean and crisp but really lacks in flavor and was practically like drinking water. i am normally fan of Harpoon but this was very generic

Bottle. Pours light, clear yellow-gold with a small, white head. There is a nice malty aroma with notes of bread and fruit. Flavor begins sweet and biscuity along with some lemon and faint bitters. Light bodied with average carbonation. Finishes lightly sweet but very crisp and clean. This is a solid beer. It’s a bummer to see the Kolsch style in general get discounted so heavily.
