Bottle at home in CT - sourced in NYC. Pours clear brown with a creamy tan head. The nose holds filter coffee, earth, dry bread and cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with pleasant, lightly roasted malts, a bit of coffee with creamer, bread, chocolate bar. Medium bodied with fine carbonation and velvety texture. Nicely balanced on the finish with relaxed coffee character, more chocolate tones, mild roast, toasted bread. Very drinkable.

Tap. Pours clear mahogany, medium brown head, good lacing. Aroma is lots of coffee, not much else. Flavor is coffee, some roast, light sweet, medium bitter, light acidity. A bit burned. Medium light body. Very coffee forward, a bit one dimensional.

Drought. Inky black with spongy tan head, strong coffee aroma, the taste of coffee is unexpectedly mild and balanced, low carbonation, long finish with coffee aftertaste. I am pleasantly surprised with the smoothness of this brew.

Dark brown coloured body with a two centimetre tall tan head that fades fairly quickly. Aroma of coffee (duh), nuts, hay, grass, alcohol and a lot of roasted malt - strong and quite bitter smelling from the brewed coffee. Medium-bodied; Strong brewed coffee flavour with a lighter nutty and earthy pungency and a light grassy and herbal note. Aftertaste shows some nuttiness with a lot of coffee bitterness, but not from the beans, just from brewed coffee with no sweetness and not much complexity. Overall, a decent beer, but missing a lot of the real flavours you’d expect from this one and only showing the nuttier and bitter finish. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (Foggy Bottom), DC on 24-February-2014 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 05-June-2014.

Bottle: Poured a deep black color stout with a large light brown foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of dry coffee notes with light roasted malt. Taste is dominated by dry bitter coffee notes with and almost spicy finish. Light bitter black chocolate notes are also noticeable. Body is a bit light for style with good carbonation. Too bitter for my taste with coffee notes veering into stringency territory.

33 cl bottle @ One Pint Pub. Rated on 19.02.2010
Aroma has coffee, some truffles and dark chocolate. Flavour has mocha, some dark chocolate, licorice and hints of cocoa. Feels a bit thin but I like the strong coffee aromas here.

Tap @ Schlafly St. Louis. Pours a brown appearance with a tan head. Roasty coffee, nice toffee, vanilla, enticing aroma. Dark fruity, plum, caramel coffee, a touch syrupy flavor. I’m a bit mixed but I think I like it.

Chevy Chase, DC 12oz: Pours a black colour with a small head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts. Taste is a little on the thinner side. As another reviewer noted, there might not be enough roasted maltiness in here. The flavors are, however, quite nice. The coffee is really good and balances well with the mild sweetness of the stout. Pretty good and an easy drinker.

Bottle. Coffee/cocoa malt and light weedy aroma. Dark brown color with moderate head. Sweet mocha malt flavor with a lightly bitter weedy grass finish. Nice.
