Cask at The Grill, Aberdeen. It pours clear amber with a small white head. The nose is caramel, wood, ginger, nut and raisin. The taste is wood, Christmas spice (particularly ginger and clove), leather, earth, raisin, varnish, caramel and nut with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Good balance and flavour. Nice spicy bitter!

Dark golden bitter, not much flavour but has a thick texture that gives it its winter warmer tag. Mild malty sweet aroma.

A malty but oddly sharp aroma. A copper beer with a head that dissipated quite quickly. A malty but slightly bland flavour and a bitter aftertaste. Drinkable but quite unremarkable.

Cask at the Gig House (JDW), Wokingham. Hazy amber with a dense cream head that left lots of lacing on the glass;the aroma is malty and spicy with a touch of orange zest; in the mouth it’s sweet and orangey with some Christmas spices and a full, malty, body; the finish is dry with a deep, but rather muted, bitterness. Not bad.

On tap @ Carters Bar. Pours dark amber with a nicely proportioned head. The nose has a sweet note of cake mixture and perhaps winter cake spices. The taste has more of the cake mixture, perhaps some apples or grapes and then the sweet malty spicy finish. The palate is at least medium in body and texture and has a smooth finish. Overall, one of the best I’ve tasted from Sinclair breweries.

Two hand-pulled pints in my local Wetherspoons on 7th Dec 2012. Found this strange tasting so had a second pint to ensure I’d got it everything correct in my notes. Amber body with a creamy textured off-white head: the head produced some good lacing on both pints, so the beer was in fine condition. The nose and taste went something like this: baked Mince Pies laced with cinnamon and cloves, now crumble a ginger nut biscuit over the top and re-bake the Pies. Once you’ve taken the over cooked Mince Pies out the oven add more cinnamon and a hop leaf or two before soaking in a bucket of alcohol. Put into casks and send to Wetherspoons. PS: I liked both pints!

Cask at The Metropolitan (Wetherspoons), Baker Street, London. An amber coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Ginger and spice aroma. Tastes of ginger, spice and vague Christmasey ingredients. Lacking in complexity but OK.

3rd rate Cask @ JDW Elgin 241212 - I’m liking this more and more, nice soft spicy doughy malts. Getting a wee touch of that bitter harshness in the finish again though. Overall it has good flavour and is their one of their best beers. Certainly could have more than 1 pint of this! Up to 3.5.
Re-rate JDW Elgin 261211 - Better finish, less harsh 6463-13 3.2
Cask @ JDW Inverness 211211 6462-11
Appearance Amber, clear, dense white head, good lacing.
Aroma Light christmas spices, cinnamon, allspice.
Taste Strong christmas spices - cinnamon, mince pies, allspice, quite fruity, hops obliterated by spices, bit of dough. The spice flavour is quite good.
Palate Soft carb, thin to medium body, tangy spices, smooth. Finish - quite dry, but some over lingering bitter cinnamon on the tongue.
Overall Could only have 1 pint of this, bit gimmicky, spices bit over strong but are very much of Christmas and taste good.

2nd December 2008. Clear brown beer - a small creamy head. Highly spiced beer! Lots of ginger and cinnamon. Not quite overpowering but unapologetically spicy and I would struggle to drink much of it.
