2012 vintage bottle thanks to Mikem409! Pours opaque inky black, medium dark brown head, creamy and long lasting with nice lacing. Aroma is very roasty, ashes, cocoa, a bit of licorice. Flavor is light plus sweet, medium bitter, quite roasty, just a faint hint of anise and light burned notes. Rich. Full body. Nice beer.

08/02/2014 750ml bottle shared by Theydon_Bois @ Ma che siete venuti a fà (thanks Colin!). Nera, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma leggera beige-marroncina.

Bottle as shown. Pours a motor oil with large tan head that lasts leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is roast, dark fruits, vanilla, and oak. Medium mouthfeel with strong vanilla, oak, roast, chocolate, and dry finish. Good.

Bottle shared at Ma Che, big thanks to Max Daddy - He’s the Daddy for the IP trade! 2012 vintage #29/650. Pitch black with a dirty tan head that thins to a swirl and edgework. Nose is big roast, liqourice, dark chocolate, dark fruits, booze fumes but not over bearing, dark toffee fudge, dark malt. Taste comprises a big roast bite, dark chocolate, liqourice stick, burnt toffee, bitter dark chocolate, pinch of spice, boozey lick, ash. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light booze in a semi cloying closure. Decent impy, the 10.% is well integrated, just falls a little short of a great for me.

Bottle at Stout 3 & Freestyle Tasting, thanks to Leighton. It pours black with a medium dark tan head. The nose is dark fruit, jammy, berry, roasted malt, chocolate, earth and a touch of liquorice. The taste is roasted malt, coffee, earth, rich chocolate gateaux, scorched earth, toast, charcoal, burnt caramel, liquorice and warming alcohol with a dry, roasty finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Good depth of flavour, well balanced and thankfully not too sweet,

Bottle shared at the Stouts Pt. III & Others Tasting - London. Thanks to Jay for the trade. Bottle 64 of 650. Pours oily black with a big, deep brown head. Aroma holds lots of dry baking cocoa, some roast, dark fruits, burnt marshmallows. Medium to big sweet flavor but not at all cloying, lots of bitter baking cocoa and charred earth, burnt toast, strong roasted malt character, some burnt brown sugar. Full bodied with average, creamy carbonation. Warming finish, more bitter earth and baking cocoa, light peat, charred wood. Great stuff, loads of depth, good balance.

THX! to Thirstybird / Rian for this one. Who apparently obtained this one in brutal conditions. Waiting in line for hours at minus 20. Now that the previous brewer is gone apparently this will never exists in the same way again.75 cl. bottle tried. 2010 Vintage. 353/500 (hand numbered – yay, my first hand numbered beer). Pours black, not too much mocha head which quickly goes to the sides and remains there in a circle. Nose is big on liquorice but in an enjoyable fashion, light roasted malts, very slick chocolate, thick malts, lightly warming,… Liquorice is taken a step back in the taste, sweet, very velvety, more towards the bitter and roasted side but in moderation with some liquorice sweetness, chocolate, roasted malts, light herbs,… Very silky, very, very smooth, almost inkling oak. Very different that is for sure, more EU in style than USA almost – thx & cheers.
