2016 catch up - Bottle at home - My first sour beer (not including beer that was accidentally off in pubs) and I hated it. This is my personal taste, but I really don’t like sour beers, although I was willing to try. It was thrown away after two sips and I will do my best to avoid such beers in the future.

Bottle at home from beermerchants.com. Pale yellow coloured pour with a light haze and a stable white froth. Aroma is punch y zesty lemon , nice floral notes and later lovely mixed fruit salad, passion fruit. Nice sharp sour edge to the aroma. Flavour is composed of bready, wheat grains, tangy sour, sweet and sour, pineapple, passion fruit. Palate is a bit flabby grains, moderate carbonation. Some grain tanin. A little bit too sweet, but im digging the tropical fruit and sour components.

Bottle at home, from Beer Gonzo, 16/05/15 - slow gusher warning. Murky pineapple jus yellow/orange with a moderate off white covering that veers edgeward. Not a looker - just avoids a 2 ! Nose is citric hop, mango, light puke, apricot, mango, light lactic tones, lemon rind. Taste comprises zingy citrics, sharp lemon, acidic tones, pink grapefruit, damp hay. Medium bodied, fine carbonation with a little spritz, tarte close packed with citric sherbets, juicy hops and light puckerings. Solid refreshing hopped up sour.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at UBREW in Bermondsey. Pours unclear yellow, quite effervescent, with a thick, frothy white head. Nice tart lemon aroma, underscored with notes of grass, pine needles and citrus rind. Light sweet flavor with moderate acidity, good lemon bite, some pale bready sugars, lightly bitter pine needles, touches of salt. Light bodied with lively, small-bubble, massaging carbonation. Crisp and cleansing on the finish, with further lemon acidity, light sourdough bread, some lemon rind, grapefruit juice, soft grass and straw. Really, really drinkable. Nicely done.

Hazy gold beer, small white head. Nice nose of orange, tangerine and lemon. Palate is light, semi dry and little crisp. Taste follows the nose but not as intense. A mild sourness pervades. Light dry finish.

Keg at the Rake. It pours cloudy golden with a tiny white head. The nose is crisp, fresh, zesty orange, grapefruit, tropical stuff, lactic twang and funk. The taste is crisp, tart, zingy, orange, peach, grapefruit, soapy sherbet, lactic acidity, touch of spice and damp leaves with a dry, citrus-driven finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Another solid hopped sour from these guys.

Bottle. Nose is lovely, peach, blossom, lemon, slight resin, very inviting. The beer was poured slowley and with care, and an insane amount of yeast came out of the bottle. It pored like thin tea. The last bit of the bottle poured once I have finished looked like beige emulsion. Taste is tart, lots of lemon, salt, emerging lime with more than a little mojito to it. Finish is all lemon and lime. Far too fizzy and too watery in the finish. , This is a refreshing beer, and I am still really glad Ardwick Ales (ahem) are making this type of stuff locally, but it really lacks subtlety and has more to do with an alcopop in taste than a proper sour beer. I hope for more as they bed in.

Bottle. Beermoth, Manchester. Hazy, yellow gold. Film and halo of white head. Grainy malts. Punchy, lemon, grapefruit, and soft, peachy hop. Behind that, it’s yeasty, and light, fusty sour. Some vanilla creaminess, from who knows where, ties things up nicely. Taste is light tart, yeasty dry, with a smidge of hop bitterness. Zingy, zesty palate. Finishes zesty, lemon tart. Dry, light bitter close. Lovely stuff.
