Bottled. Amber colour with a mediumsized white quite long lasting head, which leaves some lace. Aroma is smoked, mild toasted caramel malts as well as some wooden and quite fruity notes. Flavour is being quite similar, but a bit lighter on the smoked and toasted notes. Quite a pleasantly balanced brew.

Keg @ Camden’s Daughter, Kentish Town, London. Hazed amber ale with a dominant smoked character, but an easy-drinking crisp texture for its strength.

Shared bottles at the 24th March 2016 Shrewsbury Beer Club (in Chez Sophie). My heart sank when I saw this on the list of beers for the night. I am not a big fan of either Lager or smoked beers, so a smoked lager is not something I would usually go for. Anyway this grew on me as I drank it: golden amber and smoky.

330ml bottle. Barely clear. orangey golden to pale amber colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting minimally lacing off-white head. Mild smoky aroma, hints of smoked eel, sweetish hints of barbecue, beechwood, bread crust. Taste is slightly sweet caramel malty, smoky, hints of beechwood, smoked eel, some bread crust, mild hop bitterness; soft palate. Well balanced, harmonious, good - simply not that intense.

Draft at Craft Beer Rising 2014 - London. Pours clear gold with a creamy head. A classic Camden Town beer: very well executed, and very drinkable. Moderately sweet, with pale bready malts, good smoke presence. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Great balance on the finish, with lingering smoke, some bready malts, mellow bitterness. Solid.

Keg at the Hanging Bat. Sweet toffee, light smokiness, dry, something odd but not bad.

On tap at the Evening Star, Brighton on 5th May 2014. Deep amber with lasting white part-lacing foam. Smoky malty aroma. Rich smoke, malt and citrus in-mouth that harmonise beautifully. Fruity, floral aftertaste with berries. Light mouthfeel and body. Pleasant.

Keg at the Lyric, 17/03/14. Golden with a good sized off white head that dissipates to a covering. Nose is stale bread, light smoke, tarte fruit, bitter orchard, damp flannel, not really doing it for me ! Taste is unlike the nose, caramel, bready malt, sweet lickings, brown sugar cubes, very subtle smoke. Medium bodied, moderate caronation, very light smoke and sweet notes in the close. So so, not a great aroma and overly sweet for a smoked beer, won’t be revisiting this one in a hurry.

Keg @ Euston Tap. BACON! Lots of smoky bacon, perhaps more intense and smoky than Schenkerla’s finest, with a meaty maltiness and palette crushing smoked elements.
