Bottle: Motverka Tristesse. Murky, very dark brown. Roasted, sourish aroma. Taste the same, dusty. Low carb. Strange.

Bottle as Struise Black Jack Motverkar Tristess. Pours murky very dark brown with airy light tan head. Clear aroma of malt, caramel and fruit. Sourish flavour of off-grain, with notes of malt and coffee, with a dusty finish. Off? Needs re-rating.

Thick beige-greige head over black beer. Coffee, very roasted, alcohol despite the unassuming 7% ABV. Tad of vanilla. Roasted-light bitter, but with a serious sweetish-malty basis. Coffeebeans, but yet not overly coffeeish. Feels rather well-carbonated, very slick to viscous, light alcoholwarming, very dry. Basic, if compared to the Damnation series, but still a very good stout.Earlier Rating: 10/26/2008 Total Score: 3.8Small but persistent yellow-brown head over near black beer with reddish reflections. Sweet, alcohol, fusels, fruits preserved in alcohol. Sweet flavours, with liquorice mainly, but followed by curry flavour in the finish, exotic spices, peppery indeed. Well-bodied, grist-slickness, wheat-like slickness, sticky. That’s a nice one, guys! I can agree with strong porter, but Imperial... not really.

Bottle at Belgobaren, Stockholm. It pours jet black, with a thin tan head. The nose is roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, toasted coconut and dark fruit (particularly prune and blackcurrant). The taste is rich coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, toffee, charcoal, some dark fruit and toasted coconut, with a dry-roasted finish. Some alcohol warmth present. Medium-full body and moderate-high carbonation. Good balance and flavour.

2008 Vintage dusty bottle @ Kulminator / 33 cl. / Always interested in trying a new Struise, they have had this one around for as long as I can remember but it doesn’t appear to be all that common, brewed only once in 2008 / Colour is a chestnut black with a mocha head that mostly sticks just to the sides / Smell is lots of cocoa, dried dark fruits, darker chocolate (but not the extreme stuff) & very vinous, this one appears to be infected, not necessarily in a undrinkable or terrible way but still clearly infected / Taste is lots of cocoa & even more Nescafe (the beans/grains themselves, to a lesser extend the brewed stuff as well) especially in the aftertaste, roasted, slight ashtray malt, dried dark fruits, hint of spices, somewhat thinned out by the aging, getting some slight wood here behind the Nescafe & clearly vinous, this is indeed infected / Body has been thinned somewhat by the barrel aging and the subsequent aging as well, although I don’t think that this was ever more than between medium to somewhat light, probably has always been thinned out by the aging / Not the best Struise around, I don’t think that this one was that amazing to begin with, the aging didn’t help it and the infection above all and yet I would lying if I didn’t say that I did somewhat enjoy it
