Saison, meaning ‘season’ in French, was originally brewed by farmers in the French-speaking parts of Belgium. Brewers of this beer used raw materials that were available at the particular time of season, meaning that the character of the beer would vary from farm to farm and from month to month. Our tribute to this seasonal brew uses blackcurrant juice and a special yeast that produces a lot of dry flavor and high carbonation. This dryness, together with the taste of the blackcurrants, gives the beer a lightly vinous tone.

Bottle at home. Aroma is strong berries, tart black currant, light sweetish dark fruits, jam. Flavour is quite tart and moderate sour with an inoffensive moderate sweetness. Body is medium. Very enjoyable, like drowning in tart black currant.

(Bottle) Dark red colour with brownish hints. Brief beige head. Fruity, slightly sourish nose with notes of black-currant, bread, sour cherries, spices, vanilla and a touch of caramel. Fruity, tart taste with black-currant, red berries, bread, spices, a touch of chocolate and a tart finish with fairly low bitterness. More than medium body, with a slight sweetness. Fresh and tasty, with a good black-currant character. Very nice.

75cl bottle, courtesy of 77ships @ Sebletitje’s Farewell Tasting. BB 09/2016.

750 ml. bottle sampled @ Sebletitje’s Farewell Tasting. 2015 Vintage. BBF 16.09.2016. Bright deep red ruby with deep off-pink head. Looks lovely. Nose is massive black currant, low raspberry, black currant is stupibly big with some sweeter sorbet lacto profile. Taste is extremely big black currant despite the age, huge pommelgranate juice, red berries, fruit is huge, low green grass, weeds, low lactic in the back, sparkling lemonade, fruit steels all the game with some red wine in the back. Very nice fruit beer. Body is red wine, fizzy black currant lemonade.

18/XI/16 - 75cl bottle @ Seb's Farewell Tasting (Eugene's place) - BB: IX/2016 (2016-1323) Thanks to 77ships for sharing the bottle!

Clear deep ruby red to almost purple beer, big creamy pink to beige head, very stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: earthy, lots of tannins, bit fruity, little sweet. MF: lively carbon, medium body. Taste: very fruity start, bit sourish. Aftertaste: some tannins, fruity, red currants, some cherries, ok stuff. By no standards can you call this a saison, though...

75 cl bottle from Systembolaget, aged a bit. Sample don September 16, 2016. BB June 2016.Though it has been aged a while past the BB date, still rating this one.Had it plenty of times both draught at bottled in the past, this is the first time actuelly writing it down though.A slight bit hazy deep dark red color, fairly big fizzy pink head with plenty of lacing. Sweet, berries, a tad buttery scent. Acidic, tart, buttery, yoghurt taste. Black currants, acidic, buttery aftertaste. Also plenty of warming alcohol Fizzy mouthfeel, no bitterness, though some berry skin tart feeling to it. This certainly haven’t aged with grace.6/4/5/2/10=2.7I remember this to be clear, dark deep red, nice fluffy pink head. The scent was tart, acidic, berries, fresh. Taste was acidity from berries, rich in flavors. Though the mouthfeel has always been to the fizzy side, the slow refermentation in the bottle has ruined it a bit compared to what it once was. I had this as a refreshing drink so many times, fresh I would’ve rated it somewhere around 8/5/8/3/15= 3.9
