This beauty was created by filling two oak barrels with Lawson’s Finest Maple Nipple ale that had previously held a Maple Bourbon from Saxton’s River Distillery in Brattleboro, VT. We patiently waited a year, then blended the oak-aged beer with a small portion of fresh beer. The result is Sticky. 9% Alc.vol. Bottled - December 2013

Bottled December 2013, drunk 6/25/16.
Good clarity in this maple-mahogany body with moderate auburn tints and a dark beige head atop that sits at cover.
Very light milk, cinnamon, hardwood and black pepper in the nose all signify what I associate with maple syrup fermentation. There’s a good deal of fruitiness as well (cherries, apples, grapes) and a lingering vanilla-caramel note on the end. Little/no bourbon character and light on any wood as well, with no alcohol or flaw. Some minor oxidation at this point, but nothing serious.
Low carbonation and a bit tired at this point with tons of fruity esters from the nose, softly sweet maple sugars, soft wood tannins and peppery phenols lingering on the finish. It’s certainly soft and drinkable, though I’m not in love with the actual flavors themselves. Just vaguely fruity, sugary, peppery. Certainly unique though, and nothing is overdone. Definitely grew on me a bit, as well, as it warmed and breathed.

Bottle courtesy of HenrikO. Pours hazy golden brown with a frothy and creamy offwhite head that leaves lots of spotty trace on the glass. Smell is malty and woody with caramel, toffee, sweet dark bread, canilla fudge, charred wood, maple syrup, hay, dry soil and bourbon alcohol. Taste is slightly sweet, tiny bitter and malty. Mouthfeel is round, tiny viscous and medium bodied. Finish is sweet and tiny bitter with sweet bread caramel malts, maple syrup and hints of cardboard. Feels a bit faded. Possibly past its prime. Fun beer though... --- Beer merged from original tick of Lawson's Finest Sticky Ale on 28 May 2016 at 21:04 - Score: 7. Original review text: Feels a bit faded. Possibly past its prime. Bottle shared at the chriso Easter 2015 tasting - London. Sourced from the US. Pours clear amber with a creamy tan head. The nose holds dried fruits, light caramel, bread, honey and apple. Big sweet flavor with rich caramel, ripe apples, more honey, some maple, dates. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish, moderately sticky-sweet, with more ripe and lightly dried fruits, maple and caramel. Good depth, nice balance.

375 ml bottle thanks to Willrunforbeer for the share, great cellar dive, Label reads bottled December 2013. Cloudy Amber color with very thin head leaving spider web lace in the snifter. Aroma shows caramel, mild maple sugar, hints of toasted grain. Weak dark fruit.

Flavor has very weak barrel character. The bourbon is just barely noticeable, like an after thought after the blending of the new and old base. Very light touch of oak in the finish with the alcohol being very well hidden.

Bottle split at Chriso Easter Tasting ’15, thanks to LKS 04/04/15. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Amber orange with a decent beige covering. Nose is maple syrup, caramel, sweet tunes, toffee apple, dates, figs. Taste comprises rich caramel, sweet fruit puree, spice, maple syrup, subtle BA. Full bodied, oliy feel, drying close. Decent enough fayre if a touch sweet but as to be expected due to the nature of the beast.

Bottle at ChrisO’s house of fun. Thanks to L-Dogg. It pours clear deep red-brown with a medium beige head. The nose is sweet, sticky, juicy fruits, candy, maple syrup and brown bread. The taste is bitter-sweet, brown bread, honey, oak, fruit cake, spice, maple syrup and plenty of dried fruits with a warming finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Pretty decent stuff.

375 ml. bottle split by 3 @ “Memorabel Tastingkje”. Obtained in a trade with AdamJackson! Dark brown amber with little head. Lots of molasses in here with an almost liquorish quality to in the nose, very sweet brown sugar with a spoon full of bourbon vanilla, cereal, toffee. Taste is very heavy on maple (the whole feels barely beer-like), dark grapes, lots of cinnamon, thick apple juice, toffee, light molasses,, lots of oak vanilla, bubblegum, toffee, nutmeg, light yam, sweet maple, low carbonation, thinner body than expected. Almost maple syrup with added flavours, very nice, quite far removed from beer taste-wise (not a critique but more of an observation). Very interesting & very nice beer and exactly how I hoped that this would be like.
