A dark and interesting ale, combining fruity hoppiness with a dark, malty side. Is it a porter or maybe a mild? You decide?

Bottle bought at Sainsbury’s, Pinner. A deep ruby coloured pour with a decent off white lasting head on top. Fruity, malty aroma. Tastes roasty, dark fruit, malty, slightly tart and bitter. I wouldn’t call this a porter but it is alright.

A very dark ruby coloured beer, this has a fruity aroma and a much light than expected flavour of fruit and malt with the malt dominating the aftertaste.

50cl bottle from the Sainsbury’s Beer Hunt range. Chestnut with a ring of cream head; a pleasant aroma of red fruits and malts; creamy and full-bodied in the mouth, with a fruity chocolate malt flavour; then a dry finish with a clean, bitter, hoppy edge to it. I won’t call this mild, but it’s slightly light for a porter - either way, it’s a pretty decent beer.

Cask at the Dove, London. Pours rich, red-brown with a fine, tan foam head. Earthy, woody and toasty malt nose. Light to medium sweet flavor with some burned then dunked-in-water wood, wimpy roasted malts and light, earthy bitterness. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Faintly sticky, sugary finish with dull roast character and very faint chocolate. It’s OK to drink as a ’beer’, but poor in various respects as a porter.

Cask @ Cloisters 240612
Reddish brown, clear, rich thick white head, good lacing
Aroma - rich fruity caramel malts, very fruity, hint of soft roast
Taste as above, red berries, dark caramel, then nice roasted malt comes through. Good flavour.
Palate - soft carb, medium body, smooth, slightly sticky, lingering roast on the finish
Overall - I’m not sure it’s a porter but it’s a really good beer, glad to see it again after trying it over a year ago in Newcastle

6th August 2010. GBBF.
Clear dark brown beer with a creamy head. Light semi dry palate. A little tea malt on the nose. Well balanced. Fresh toffee malt and some sweet orangey hops. Not overdry. Very drinkable.
