Bottle – probably from Beer Dock (Crewe) before it closed Not much of a nose on this one – malts with a slight peppery hint. Pours a clear bright brownish red with a plentiful pale beige head, that last a reasonable while. Fairly highly carbonated. Sweet and fruity in the mouth – toffee and fudge with a hint of raisins. Gets more complex the more I drink – a definite grower.

Bottle from the Freemasons Arms, Market Harborough. Reddish brown, very translucent with a smattering of off-white head. Light oaky aroma with bourbon biscuit malts and a touch of raspberry. Sweet taste with more chocolatey malt, but there's an earthy bitter hop in the finish. Heavily carbonated. It's got all the characteristics I like from a brown ale, but pared back. It's ok.

355ml bottle: BB 19th May 18. Poured into a Chimay chalice at home on 18th Mar 18. Teak wood red body, wispy beige head. Malts rule the nose and initial taste, then the hops kick in to give a semblance of balance. Reality is, it's a sweet malty brew, a little thin body wise and lacking in hop depth. It does however have some good points and I liked the slight caramel and chocolate flavours mid-sip.
