Our second collaboration with Brasserie St-Feuillien, Friendship Brew, is a Black Saison that blends European and American hops, Belgian yeast and a cache of secret spices. The aroma and flavors are enticing, with delicate fruitiness, subtle spice and rounded roast malt characteristics. Bottle conditioning provides lively carbonation and rich beer foam for a luscious body and a lean, dry finish.

. Opaque black, dense long lasting beige head. Plastic belgian yeast aroma. Flavour is heavy liquorice, astingent roast, berry. Prickly carb. Grassy bitter hop. Disappointed with this one.

Black Country Beano. Outbound train tasting! Dark brown beer, not quite clear. Tidy pale tan head. Light softish palate, airy and a little dry. Tangy Coca Cola and generic fruits. Mellow spice. Little cinnamon. Finishes light and dry with a little spice bitterness in the aftertaste.

Actually a litter underrate I find. Pours black with good lacing and head. Aroma of lime, pepper and a touch of roast malt and bretta. Soft carbonation. Tastes a little bitter with some sourness. A dose of black funk. Bottle.

Bottle at the Deanso’s monthly RB tasting, July 2013. Poured a dark mahogany colour with a frothy tan head. The aroma is quite literally of minty toothpaste. The flavour is medium sour, big liquorice, roasted malt and some alcohol. The bitterness sticks around forever in the finish.

Tap: Poured a deep black color ale with a small brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt with some rustic malt notes. Taste is also dominated by rustic malt with light roasted malt notes and some light funky notes. Body is about average with medium carbonation. Interesting experiment but not necessarily something I would seek on a regular basis.
