Bottle from De Molen shop Dark brown color with huge light beige head towering over my glass. Aroma of dark malt and citrus hops. Taste, roasted malt, coffee, citrus hops. Nice, I liked it, even it has nothing to do with Saison.

As always, you should put ’ish’ after the style listing of De Molen beers. Yes, this is somewhat like a black saison, but it also has a taste of smoke, some chocolate and even a little sourness. Creative as usual, tasty beer.

33 cl bottle @ hotel room, Amsterdam. Bottled 10.02.2014, BBE 10.02.2016
Ok, it seems that my bottle just contained foam in a liquid form, it transformed into its own element during the pour. Aroma is light and rather ashy with hay and hints of licorice. Flavour has licorice, some ashy tones and hints of coffee. Palate varies from foamy to flat depending on how carefully you pout it. Alcohol is well hidden, but I can feel it warming my throat. Too ashy, probably due to the amount of CO2. And more like stout than a saison. Perhaps some funky yeasty tones typical to Saison in the background though. But at the end of the glass this actually feels like a saison with roasted tones. Go figure.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Matteo. Pours deep browm with a thick, creamy beige head. The nose has toasted brown bread, Belgian yeast, toasted caramel. Medium sweet flavor with more hefty toasty brown bread, more Belgian yeast, esters, some earth. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Sugary finish with lasting toasty bread, Belgian yeast and eaters, toasty caramel, dirt, dried fruits. Not bad.

Bottle at Casper is back tasting. Dark brown lasting beige head. Decent dark brown ale. I didn’t get a lot of saison. Ok.

Bottle thanks to Matteo. It pours hazy dark brown with a thick tan head. The nose is spicy, roasty, toast, dried fruits, candy, light cocoa and earth. The taste is bitter, roasty, spicy, mild acidity, dried fruit, berry, charred wood and charred stuff with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Decent.

Bottle @ RBBSG, 2014. Thanks Elmanana! Dark brown colour, beige foam. Spicy aroma with notes of roasted malts. Hoppy with a light sour touch. Strange beer, not the best of De Molen.

Bouteille 75cl @ RBBSG III. Bottled 10/02/2014. As per usual, who knows what DM is doing with the styles, this has zero remote notes of a saison, oh well .... at least this one was not infected.

750 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBSG III. Thanks to ElManana. Black, huge mocha head. Nose is thin, metallic with mocha, black chocolate & roast. Bitter metallic taste, dark grapes, bitter, chocolate, touch sour in the back, roast. Bit incoherent & carries less enjoyable elements.
