Oktoberfest lagers are the ultimate party beer. Up front, they’re rich, sweet, and malty, but they finish dry and clean with an ever-so-slight touch of hops. Prost!

A can from Secret Santa. Canned on what looks like 10(or 9)/23/10. Finally. I think this thing has been on my wants list for 2 or 3 years. Pours with a clear, penny colored body with a large bone colored head. Aromas of fruity, citrus and piny hops, bready, rye, light corn husk aroma. Grainy, straw and bitter. Flavors of bread, delicate malt, grainy, toast, light caramel, light fruit (hop), rye. Medium dry, crisp and bitter finish. Lively bubbles. Tasty lager! Not traditional, but that is fine by me!

Sampled from the cask at the 2010 GTMW. Poured a cloudy yellowish orange with a white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had a nice combination of citrus and pine with a nice backing of grain. Flavor began with a nice pine note and mellowed in to a lighter citrus finish with a slight backing bread note.

Medium amber liquid with a puffy white head that dissipates to a fine but uneven pattern of lacing. Sweet and doughy. Some hop character that I can’t quite place. Good lager flavor. Fresh grains and dry yeast. Some sweet breadiness. Mild rye flavor. Some nice bitterness in the finish. It’s a good beer with a good lager flavor, but it’s not as complex as I was somehow expecting. I would prefer it have a crisper bite.

Can from allen dodd - thanks once more! He thinks this is 2008. Pours clear copper with a frothy beige head. Aromas of mild caramel and noble hops. Near medium body with fairly mild carbonation. Flavor is a bit complex; the rye is definitely noticeable. After the rye gets out of the way, piney hop pops up. Pretty tasty beer.

A hazed dark amber lager with a thick off white head. In aroma, loads of malt with good fresh hops, and light sulfur notes, even a bit of cheese. In mouth, a good malt base with Saaz hops, herbaceous. Rich and smooth. Shared with Probstk, April 2 2009. Thanks to Piscator for this one.

Amber, hazy. Spicy, herbal and big citrusy hop aroma. Very bitter. Lots of rye spiciness. The malts are presentt but subdued. Not very lagerish, but it’s an interesting brew.

Had a can of this several years ago which was all steamed vegetables and metal, so I assumed that was a bad can and traded for another for a rerate. 16 ounce can courtesy AWISLGuy. Pours a clear dark copper with a thin frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of caramel malt, mild tart fruits. The taste is toffee, toasted malts, roast, herbal hops. Medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness.

courtesy of our dfender of good beers tpd975 These people in MN sure know how to brew a good Oktoberfest. Pours amber. Aroma is hoppy pine, citrusy and rye. Taste lightly hoppy, malty giving a near vegetable mouthfeel. The finish is lightly hoppy. Easy to drink, good stuff.

Big thanks to tbd975 for bringing two cans of this tasty Surly brew. Pours clear deep copper with thin off white head. The mild aroma has notes of malts, some rye sting and a bit of rich sweet smelling fruity esters. The taste has a quick pulse of malt sweetness followed by a tasty rye twang. By midway the hops build up with notes coming from citrus, earthiness and spice all mixing together with the solid rye note. It ends with lingering hops and rye. YUM.

Bottle courtesy of Oakbluff: Poured a deep slightly hazy amber color ale with a thick foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of big semi-sweet malt rye with some dry hops. Taste is also dominated by big rich malt with the typical rye taste and some light dry hops at the end. Full body with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very refreshing beer but also very filling which mean I wouldn’t have that much in a session. Also, I was expecting a hop bomb as this brewery is quite good at those but this is somewhat close to the original style.
