JORVIK Viking Festival have teamed up with Brew York to create this special Finnish-inspired ale.
Inspired by the Saga of the three sons of Ragnar Lothbrok, who led the Great Viking Army invasion of England in AD 866, ‘Ragnar’s Revenge’ is a Sahti-style ale infused with traditional ingredients including juniper, rosemary and fennel.

Beer share at Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury; 11th June 2018. I brought along this 330ml can (BB 5th Feb 2019). Beige head on a slightly hazy deep amber body, it's unfiltered, so you'd expect some sort of mistiness. I thought this a bit bland and lacking in herbs/flavour and depth. Having said that, I actually enjoyed it's simplicity and mini-sweetness.

330ml can @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, June 18, courtesy of Jeremy. Pours a misty amber, off-white head. Malty fruity nose. Has a curious sweetness, malt loaf, not getting the fennel, some mild juniper perhaps. Interesting, but could do with a little more of the additions standing out.

330ml can. Pours a deep amber brown with a beige head. Aroma is yeasty, spicy, sweet malts. Taste is similarly yeasty, sweet bready malts, spicy herbal notes I assume are the juniper, rosemary and fennel, light dried fruits, hint of bubblegum. Light-medium body, very soft carbonation it's almost flat. Not had a Sahti before so no idea how close this comes to the style - tastes fine but overall seemed like a thin Belgian Ale of sorts.

Cask-conditioned at the Phoenix, York 7 March 2018. Chestnut in colour, with a tight, off-white, head. A sweet, bitter- like, beer with some berry fruits, leafy hope and a touch of green herbs. Fine.

Can from Drink? Hebden Bridge. Dark hazey amber with a thin head. Feels like a sweet bitter, but this sweetness is very bland tasting.

Can on the Brizzle Boost train. It pours clear deep mahogany brown with a small beige head. The aroma is sweet, sticky, oily, herbal, spiced, juniper, berry skin, toffee and blueberry muffin. The taste is dry, bitter, oily, peppery spice, herbal, juniper, tannin, cola, caramel, wood, twig, spruce, chewy action, bit tart and chewy action with a drying finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Good go at a sahti.

Can shared on the train. Thanks to Daniel. Pours clear orange-ruby with a small, foamy off-white head. The nose holds toasted malts, dried berries, dough. Light-medium sweet flavour with more bready malts, a faint metallic, faint toffee, more berries, grape. Medium bodied, lightly oily, with fine carbonation. Somewhat sweet in the finish, more toasted bread, a few grains, ripening berries, subtle toffee. Not bad overall.

Dan's Stag. Train rate. Can. Hazy deep amber beer, tidy pale tan head. Airy dry palate, reasonable fine carbonation. Thin malts, thin twangy caramel. Tangy fruits. Little cranberry. Mild spice. Touch of bubblegum esters. Dry finish. Okay. Not a bad attempt.
