Wetherspoon Autumn Beer Festival 2018. Cask @ Percy Shaw, Halifax. Dark clear reddish-brown but more of the latter. Also with a creamy head. Has chocolate in its aroma and taste, this is light, as is its smokiness, which is most apparent in its nose.

Cask at Portcullis, Stirling. It pours deep mahogany brown with a thick, fluffy beige head. The aroma is warming, mellow peat reek, smoked, bitter - sweet, hearty bread and a touch of spice. The taste is dry, bitter, roasted malt, warming smoke, peat action, brown bread, rivita, peppery and dull caramel. Lingering peat smoke finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Flavourful, yet very drinkable. I rather like this!

Cask @ JDW Montgomery's Tower, Shrewsbury. Pours ruby with off-white topping. Aroma sees some dark smoky treacle. Taste bears a slick, dark smoked toffee character, light in terms of smoke which sees the sweetness shine nicely.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. A pale amber pour with no head (as it was gravity poured); pleasant wood smoke aroma; smoky taste, but not overpowering, and with birch sap in the background rather than anything meaty, light enough to allow the sweet biscuity malts to come through; then a dry finish with still a trace of smoke. Rather well done.
