Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 33B / 26D). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 9410060 (BBF unknown - Bottled on 12/07/2016). AROMA: complex malt and ester aroma with notes of marmalade, dried grapes and prunes, maillard compounds (slight bread crust) and low toffee-like notes. background with a vinous character. slight peppery alcohol presence. APPEARANCE: light ambar color and clear. medium-low ivory head with average retention. leg formation. TASTE: taste similar to the aroma with notes of dried grapes/prunes, slight bread crust, toffee-like. background with a port-like impression. medium-low with a semi-sweet finish. PALATE: medium-high body with a velvety texture. medium carbonation. smooth alcohol warmth. OVERALL: a nice double barrel aged belgian dark strong ale with subtle barrel notes.

Pours a thick, near-opaque red-brown with a brief fizzy head and no lacing. Aroma's a mix of dark fruity Belgian notes, bourbon, oak, and a musty, vinous undertone. Taste starts with a heavy dose of dried figs and dates and prunes dipped in caramel and palmetto honey. Bourbon flares up near the middle, with vanilla and oak coming in on the back end. Gains layer of red wine and an even woodsier bitter slant on the finish, along with a somewhat abrasive boozy fade. Drinkable now, but needs considerable aging to round out the edges.

330ml bottle @ Chez Sophie. Pours a deep mahogany, small off-white head. Aroma has a strong wine influence backed up with good dark sweet malt. Taste is a moderate to high sticky sweet character, not overly so, with some caramel, nuts, caramel-malts, warming spicy alcohol and a soft bourbon influence. St Emilion shines through a little, providing a complex, alluring but balanced complexity. Excellent BA quadrupel.

33 cl bottle at Billie’s Bier Kafétaria, Antwerp (and yes, it says all the line about the four years’ patience, and yes -it’s 33 cl and not 75.) It pours dark amberish ruby red, dark and with some long-lasting pillowy tan head. Aroma is way intense: cookies, tomato, caramel, cinnamon, red fruits. Taste is powerful, sweetish, very sour. Somewhat aggressive but balanced thanks to the right acidiy. Medium carb, low bitterness, long peristence.

Small bottle, 12C. Amber w a fading inch of cream head. Boozy aroma of grapes and plums, oak, strong cider. Perhaps a little lighter bodied than expected, medium to low carbonation is nice. Tastes much as it smells. Is there a little tannic lilt? Maybe. A little leather. Sweetish with a lick of bitterness at the end. No unintegrated alcohol. All quite harmonious but doesn’t really go anywhere.

Bottle @ Van Moll Brewpub shared with BDomue and my friend Lucas. Hazy dark orange to reddish amber color, average sized off-white to beige head. Aroma is very sweet, winey, fermented overripe fruits. Taste lightly malts, sweet, a bit alcoholic, a hint of red fruit. Decent to medium body, decent carbonation.
