This Peppermint Victory at Sea is a festive take on our popular Imperial Porter. We took our trademark robust porter brewed with Caffe Calabria coffee and vanilla and added a dose of refreshing peppermint. The trio of flavors play perfectly on your palate – the brew’s sweet roastiness balances nicely with a cool, minty finish. You might even call it a breath of fresh beer.

Tap. Dark brown color with beige ring. Aroma is peppermints, chocolate, touch of vanilla. Taste is chocolate, peppermints, a bit Mentos. Oily soft mouthfeel. Very nice, though probably not as great as the regular Victory at Sea.

Okay, so I don’t like peppermint in my beer. Curiosity satisfied. Not an altogether bad variation on Victory at Sea, with a mild minty flavor cutting through on the front and middle, canceling out the coffee but playing nicely off the vanilla. The finish, though...weird melding of hoppy bitterness with a minty astringency leads to a clingy, mouthwash-tinged fade, one that lingers too long on the palate to be considered pleasant. Shoulda bought the Coconut.

10oz draft pour at Evening Star. Poured a very dark brown, almost black color with a thick creamy tan head. Aroma was roasted malts, some coffee, touch vanilla, a very light peppermint notes. Flavor was mostly roasted malts, chocolate. Light peppermint. Was a touch disappointed. It’s fine, just lacking in peppermint.

Keg at Mellow Mushroom Charlottesville. Dark brown, large creamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of peppermint, chocolate, coffee, vanilla. The taste is bitter earthy peppermint, if that makes sense. Chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, vanilla. The mint comes across as really weird here. Not well put together, offensive, discordant. Medium-full bodied, mild booze.

Tastes much better than I would have thought. The one mint beer I’ve tried prior to this was over-the-top and tasted pretty awful, but this is fairly understated. Pours a deep, brown-black, with good-sized, lasting head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, and mint. Flavors of coffee, chocolate, and mint, none really overpowering any of the others. If anything, there’s a bit of conflict between the coffee and the mint flavors (just as there was between the coffee and the coconut in that variety). On the whole, not too bad.

Bottle. A- Peppermint. A- Black color, dark liquid, light brown head. T- Peppermint. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, minty finish. O- I loved Victory at Sea and I am hit or miss on peppermint so I had to try this one. Definitely loaded on the peppermint. Reminded me of Perennial 17. Solid beer. A dessert beer for sure. Paired nicely with some dark chocolate. Not much going on other than peppermint.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice, thinnish, single centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of pure peppermint, grass, earth, roasted malt, vanilla, dry oak and way more vanilla and pepermint - wow. Medium to Full-bodied; Assertive fake peppermint flavour of breath mints and gum along with a good malt flavour, some creamy and lactose-based flavours and finishes with a definite mint and grassy finish. Aftertaste shows roasted malt, coffee, earth, peppermint, alcohol and a bit of light bitterness. Aftertaste shows the fake peppermint and a lot of roasted malt coupled with an artificial sweetness, some good body and an interesting finish. Overall, a decent and interesting beer that would do well in another year or so, but is very flavourful right now! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Wegman’s in Leesburg, Virginia on 24-December-2015 for US$9,49 sampled at home in Upstate (New Paltz), New York on 24-November-2016.

Bomber. Pours a deep blackish brown with a sudsy tan head and aromas of coffee, charcoal and light mint. Flavor is heavy with burnt charcoal edginess, coffee and then mint that is cleverly woven into the fabric. Vanilla pokes in at times too. Very nicely done beer.
