Our coconut and chipotle pepper porter was aged for 6 months in bourbon barrel with cacao beans, tangerine peels and morita pepper. A rich, complex beer, yet it keeps a highly drinkable profile.

(750ml bottle from L'Axe du Malt, Quebec City) Pours basically black with a tiny tan ring. Notes dominated by a core of rather acidic dark malts with an ashy roast to them, some quite milky chocolate and soft coconut, savoury smoky peppers, drying old wood, very limited bourbon notes, tangy acidic roasty finish with savoury pepper notes. Light to medium body with limited carbonation. The thin acidic roast makes this nearly sour and the adjuncts and barrel don't really recover it, feels lighter than its ABV. Nah, not great.

Thank you for sharing Sebletitje & tderoeck! 750 ml. bottle sampled @ Vini Birre Ribelli 2016. Murky dark brown. Nose is sweet mocha, low umami, chocolate, basic sweet cacao & chocolate. Taste basic sweet sugary milk chocolate and mocha, sugar, leading into nice chili burn that lingers, good balance between strong enough rich chili & very sugary sweet cacao chocolate, chocolate syrup, mocha. Body is basic sugary chocolate & mocha syrup. Good stuff bit too sugary sweet almost edging to artificial, very nice but not the greatest.

Bottle sample @ Vini Birre Ribelli ’16 shared with 77ship and Tderoeck.

750 ml bottle. Pours black with moderate tan head that settles quickly. Aromas of thin black coffee, roasted pepper, dark chocolate ice cream, and dry roasted malts. Flavors of dark chocolate powder, dusty roasted malts, vanilla, light molasses, and roasted peppers. Nice light burn with subtle bourbon. Somewhat thin but well done.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a large brown foamy head with good retention and light lacing notes. Aroma of dry roasted malt with some black chocolate notes and light faint bourbon notes is OK. Taste is also a mix of dry roasted malt notes with some black chocolate notes with faint bourbon notes. Body is full with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I could hardly picked up any notes of the chilies and the bourbon was not as dominant I was expecting. Not bad but not sure I get what the fuss is about.
