Choulette Ambrée is the result of a rigorous selection of special aromatic malts which give it a good caramel taste. Red, with coppery reflections, dense ivory foam, this beer exudes an aroma rich in notes of prune.

Bottle: Poured a hazy brown color ale with a large frothy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of bready yeast with fruity ester is quite nice. Taste is also dominated by a huge semidry caramel malt base with nice yeast ester of fresh bread and light fruit. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good bottle conditioning with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Much better then expected and a nice example of how good the French bière de garde can be.

75 cl bottle at Le Sous-Bock. Shared with Sakiko. Medium brown, a bit cloudy, fine, medium head. Chocolate, nutty aroma, with caramel and dried fruit, like prunes. Rich, sweet, amber malt, caramel, chocolate, plums and raisins. A dubbel, basically. Alcohol not very noticeable. High carbonation. Earthy, slightly funky feel to balance, with a touch of salty minerals. Not at all disappointing.

Bottle. Dark amber beer with a dark cream colored head. Malt, yeast, and light spice aroma. Caramel and light earthy flavor with light spice and light yeast. Medium bodied. Yeast lingers with malt/caramel, light dried fruit, and light earth.

clear amber, large smooth offwhite head. Sweet malty, nutty aroma, crisp. flavor is quite smoked or roasted, malty, a little sweet. maize, fruity notes, alc shows clearly when warming up. this reminds me most of a cheap strong beer, but with some interesting comlexity added in, unbalanced.

33cl Bottle from a gift pack. Clear deep amber colour, creamy off white head. Aroma of a thick sweetness, light toasted malts, honey and caramel. Flavour is sweet at first, honey and caramel, very malty, followed by a dry and light spicy bitter finish. Medium bodied, syrupy mouthfeel. Although a bit on the sweet side, a nice offering. Reminded me (especially the nose) of Paulaner Salvator.

Bottle, 8%. Weak phenolic aroma, band aid. Nice clear dark chestnut colour. Good stable light brown head. The flavour is also phenolic, and worse than the aroma. Band aid, chemical, strange liquorice. Genuine Choulette quality :/

33cl bottle. Pours dark amber/brown with a creamy head & lacings. Aroma is pleasant, dakr fruits & caramel. Medium & smooth palate. Tiny bready & metallic note. Other than that quite good. Vinous & round. The best in the La Choulette series!
