Bomber shared at the 9th Richmond Rare & Unusual Epic Tasting, Richmond, VA, 11/30/14. Pours a clear dark brown with a thin head. Poor head retention. Aroma of heavy spice, lemongrass, vanilla, roasted malts. The taste is spice, peppers, lime, roasted malt, coconut. Medium bodied, lingering spice.

How: Draught.
Where: The Bishops Arms Gamla Stan, Stockholm.
Appearance: Black colour with a tan head.
Aroma: Spices, Indian spices, more spices, something else that might just be spices in disguise.
Body: Medium body and carbonation.
Flavour: Spices, curry, something that might be chocolate and malt, more spices.
Comment: Nice first sip, second is still decent, by the third the spices take over. Just a sip is enough, too much spices and unbalanced for it to be possible to drink a lot of it.

Tap @ bishops arms, gamla stan, Stockholm. Near black, brown head. Wow, this is spicy stuff. Curry, lemon, cinnamon, you name it. Like Jookos said, walking into an a Indian spice shop. Inviting aroma. Flavor has got the same spices as well. Curry. Nice nice nice. Balanced. Maybe not something I would drink a pint of but a small glass is just great.

Tulip draft at The Sybarite Pig in Boca Raton, Florida. The pour is a deep brown black with a small khaki head. The aroma is lime initially, along with the cumin spice, curry and then a coconut toasted sweetness as the beer warms. The taste is bonkers, all of the component aroma flavors are blended cleanly (somehow) with spice, coconut and lime all adding complexity. The palate is medium bodied with soft carbonation and a dry lightly sweet coconut finish. Really well executed.

As a side note, I have been seeing this beer show up in search results for Indra for years, glad to have tried it for that reason alone.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 4/21/2014. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 2 finger fairly dense tan head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, toast, roasted malt, vanilla, coconut, cumin, cinnamon, clove, peppercorn, cardamom, cayenne, lime, herbal, and toast/herbal earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and the wide variety of spices; with good strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, toast, roasted malt, vanilla, coconut, cumin, cinnamon, clove, peppercorn, cardamom, cayenne, lime, herbal, and toast/herbal earthiness. Moderate earthy spices and heat on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, toast, vanilla, coconut, cumin, cinnamon, clove, peppercorn, cardamom, cayenne, lime, herbal, and toast/herbal earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and big spice flavors; with a nice malt/spice balance with no cloying flavors after the finish and a moderate amount of lingering heat. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a smooth and fairly creamy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol was well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish other than the heat from the spices. Overall this was a very nice spiced stout. All around good complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and spice flavors; and quite smooth to sip on despite the moderate heat. A very enjoyable offering.

Rating from two days ago up the river. Bomber. Aroma consists of the exotic spices mentioned in the description with coconut the strongest, followed by cumin, curry and cayenne; not getting the lime. It also has the expected stout roastiness and a wet river rock character. Pours dark brown to black with a medium tan head with good retention. Flavor is like biting into a scrumptious Indian dish with all aroma descriptors firmly in place. Starts sweet and earthy before turning bitter, lightly tart (Kaffir lime?) and finishing with a moderate burn from the cayenne and some bitterness. Mouthfeel is creamy, finely carbonated, medium to full body. I love a nice experimental brew and this one succeeds. Very tasty.

22 oz bottle shared by Debbie at Ale Alpharetta. Pours black, with a filmy tan head. The aroma is vanilla, curry spices, chocolate, cayenne pepper, and just a touch of citrus. The flavor is sweet up front, with a growing, fairly intense spicy warmth. The burn sticks around for quite a while, but didn’t completely ruin my palate. Heavy body, a little oily, with a clean finish. Overall, this is a wonderfully complex, spicy, and flavorful beer. I’ve had my fair share of spicy stouts, but this one stands out.

I’m sure that my palate was not ready for something like this. When I purchased the bottle I thought this was going to be something like a big rich stout combined with a little Indian pepper or something. This was more like a curry dinner with a little stout added in. Extremely interesting, I applaud Ballast Point for thinking outside of the box clearly, but enjoyable in truth, no.

A dark brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, loads of curry powder, fresh cilantro, curcuma, very Indian. In mouth, an intense mix of coconut cream and Indian spices, cilantro, coconut posted , lemongrass, light chocolate, interesting. On tap at End of Everything beer fest Dec 22 2013.
