Strong brown ale, in fact more tending towards old ale, with coarse, off-white head and cloudy copper colour. Aroma of overripe pears, meat broth, peaches, tomato, pepper; taste a nutty maltiness with fruity sweetness, caramel, brief peppery hoppiness in the finish with some warming, whisky-like alcohol. Not boring at all, in my opinion. But could have been weirder.

Sampled @ Gents Bierfestival 2014. Bottle. Spare light brown head, amber brown beer. Thick malty, sweet caramel, toffee, nutty, faint coffee, nutmeg, small touch maple, brown sugar, light grapefruit bitterness in the back. Substantial malt body. Brilliant name & very nice beer for the style. Not overly exiting or anything but there is a limit to the style.

Small yellowish head over reddish amber beer. Oxydation, bready, some esters. I’m afraid it smells boring, indeed. Oxydation, cream, dried herbs, pine, pineoil or resin; bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied, wry finish and aftertaste yielding more pine/resin. It smells boring, the rest is weird - thankfully, no hairs.

Bottle from Beer Central, Sheffield. Hazy brown. Film and halo of off white head. Toffee. Grain. Light, buttery toast. Ripe banana. Taste is banana sweet, first off. Some dryness. Lots of bitter. Chewy, yeasty palate. Finish is light sweet, and heavy, lasting bitter. I’m in a minority, by the looks of things, but I quite liked this. A brown DIPA?

Bottle from BottleDog London and drunk at home. Hazy chestnut lasting beige head. Brown malty aroma with some spiciness. Even a touch of slight sourness. Malty and hoppy bitter flavour in the mouth with plenty of hops. I like it very much. Bitter on the finish. Yes it’s a big brown bitter. Some sweetness. Hops are big. ABV is hidden well.

Keg at the Euston Tap - London. Pours clear, rich honey-amber with a creamy, white head. Lots of strong, aged fruits in the nose, bread, cake, dates. Medium sweet flavor with some leafy bitterness, oily fruits, dirt, grapes, golden raisins, dates. Full bodied with fine carbonation and thick consistency. Warming on the finish, lightly sticky, with some heavy bread, earthy and moist leaves, leathery dried fruits, berries. Meh, does’t really come together.
