Sour rye ale aged in oak barrels with peaches

To those who’ve tasted it, our barrel-aged Sour in the Rye ale is an instant classic. This is that beer that we've all come to love, aged with fresh, hand-cut peaches. The combination complements the rye spice notes of the base beer, all while basking in careful balance with the honey, vanilla, and woody character imparted from barrel-aging.

Sampled at GABF 2013. Pours a hazy orange with some filmy, off white head. Nose of bitter greens, rhubarb, unripened peach, herbal, pithy. Flavor is spectacular, sour and fruity, light acid, peach, apricot. Prickly on the tongue. Acetic finish. Very good.

Thanks to Beer Savant for sharing a bottle during his 50th birthday bash. The beer is a hazy pale amber color with a medium foamy white head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of peaches and oak. Medium-bodied with a sweet ’n’ sour peach character and notes of wood and funky apricots. The finish is tart with a peach aftertaste. Good all around.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Cloudy gold beer, little pale cream coloured head. Light crisp palate. Pretty tart! A little lemon acid. A little dry wood. Generic fruits. Seltzer minerals. Semi dry finish. Induces involuntary eye flicker so this is tart for me - but quite drinkable.

Bottle at Bruce’s, many thanks to Ken. It pours cloudy golden with a medium+ head. The nose is apricot, peach, some candy, wood, vanilla and toasted coconut. The taste is rather tart, sharp lemon, zesty grapefruit, sherbet, peach, apricot, vinegar, refreshers sweets and earth with a dry, tart finish. Medium body, fine prickly carbonation and high acidity. Very nice intense sourness. Rather tasty.

Bottle at the first night of Jack’s Farewell Series, London - thanks to Kenny. Pours murky gold with a creamy white head. Lots of sour peach in the nose, hints of acidic musk. Flavor well and sour, lots of juicy peach, some definite alcohol punch, moderate lip-quiver, sugary apricot. Medium to full bodied with fairly lively carbonation. Lightly warming to finish, some lightly vinegary sourness, peaches and apricot, light funk. I can feel some blisters forming on my tongue, but it’s a nice beer overall. Pretty hefty, but good.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is full of funk, a little bit of barnyard, peaches and medium tartness. Flavour is intensely peachy, with loads of potent intense peaches, with oak barrels and medium tartness. Never had such a intensely peachy beer. The tartness is medium, and the fruitiness is extremely high. Excellent stuff - even better than the regular Sour in the Rye.

Bottled. An unclear golden beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of peaches, malt, and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of peaches, brettanomyces, and malt, leading to a tart finsih.
