Fare thee well Josh tasting at Bruce’s. Thanks to Paul. Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Smooth palate, slightly viscous. Semi dry. Smooth dark chocolate malt. Light fruity whisky and caramel - not too sweet. Finishes smooth with mild whisky spice. Nice.

Bottle shared at Josh’s Farewell Hoorah - big thanks to Scopey Paul, 20/02/14. Black with a moderate dirty tan pond come swirl. Nose is dark malts, toffee, light BA booze twang, coconut shavings, dark chocolate - go on then ... Bounty bar effect! Taste comprises dark toffee fudge, dark chocolate, light whisky notes, woody BA twang, light roast, earthy. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light booze strains in the finish Solid BA impy, the whisky is well tamed and not overbearing at any point.

Bottle shared at Josh’s going away party. Big thanks to Paul. Pours oily black with a bubbly tan head. Nice aroma, notes of toasted marshmallow, cocoa, mild roast, a bit of burnt meat. Medium sweet flavor, inky, nice baking cocoa, slight earth, burnt marshmallows, a bit of vanilla. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation and oily mouthfeel. Lightly warming to finish, some burnt wood, earth, baking cocoa. Very nice. Good nuance.

Bottle shared the J-Dogg tasting. It pours opaque black with a minimal tan head. The nose is rich, roasted malt, espresso, cocoa, spice, medicinal notes, marshmallow, vanilla and fudge. The taste is smooth roast, toast, earth, whisky, vanilla, marshmallow, coffee, mild acidity, medicinal notes and burnt toffee with a rich, lingering finish. Full body, soft carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Rich, yet smooth and well rounded. Tasty.

Bottle as a Christmas present from Martin who should be on this site but isn’t but does know his beers and has been to many a decent beer festival with and without me. 33cl bottle in a presentation box. Drunk after 19 hours of being awake and therefore very tired and listening to jazz in the late hours. Black beer with a dissipating bubbly tan head. Intense dark bitter chocolate and espresso coffee aroma. A little oily too. Oily feel in the mouth. Faint carbonation. It’s good. I guess the whisky is more Speyside than Islay as it’s not peaty and in fact there is a hint of tangerine whisky fruit on the finish. The whisky is more present in the mouth rather than the nose. But it’s not overly dominant, in fact it rather enhances the base beer rather than subsuming it. If only other brewers could do the same. It’s lovely. Some choc sponge on the aroma. Finish has some ground coffee and choc malt flavour and is a little burnt and harsh but very lightly so. Juicy and oily in mouth but reasonably dry on the finish. Doesn’t show the alcohol at all. Well balanced beer. Good beer.
