30th Sep 2015: hand-pulled cask pint in my local Wetherspoons. Light amber/orange body, full head that gave lacing as the beer level fell. Different beast to it’s bottled brother, this has a bigger hop profile in my opinion and is less malty throughout. Having said that hop heads might find it less hoppy than they would expect for an old style IPA.

Cask @ Beckett’s Bank, Leeds. Clear golden with a thick creamy head. Quite smooth tasting without much flavour to it - has more of a washy bitterness with malts in its nose. Fairly strong tasting, most notable in its aftertaste.

Cask at the White Swan, Solihull. Poured a clear light amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is malt light hop. The flavour is medium bitter with a smooth chewy malt hop liqourice bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Totally different to the bottled version. There is so much more body to the cask derivative. Nightly drinkable.

Gold, mostly clear with a little head. Aroma surprisingly faint, slight tropical fruit but little else. Taste is an uninspiring bitter. It’s like drinking beer with a bad cold: you get the essence of beer but not the minutae. Shame that Marston’s beers have become so pedestrian. What is to blame? The ’fast cask’ conditioning, my jaded palette, or just the inevitable outcome for a macro? Oh fallen queen of Burton on the Trent; Your glory gone: I wonder where it went?

cask@Charlies bar, Copenhagen - Dark golden pour colour with a good white head. Caramel malts, with boozy hoppy notes mixed in, some yeast, grass, woody nuances. Kind of a weird mouthfeel/texture to this, not a massive fan of this overall. Average.

Tap at Argyll Arms. Pours a clear, light copper with a white film head. Malty aroma with faint, grassy hops. Well balanced flavor with sweet bread and cake, then some mild bitterness. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Short finish, some bitters linger. Good

Cask at the Bridge, Kingswinford. Pours a hazy amber with a small head. The aroma was of earthy hops and some pine coming through after. Sweet start on the taste with some malt, with a low bitter finish. Had a slightly medicinal and cloying aftertaste.
