330ml bottle, purchased at Borefts 2018. Bottled 14.09.2018. BB 14.09.2043. Pours clear ruby brown with thin beige foam. Aroma: dried fruits, notes of raisins, hints of caramel, toffee. Taste: near moderate sweet & moderate bitter, herbal, proper dry. Odd one.

Sensory Session #58: murky, dark mohagany color and a small off-white head. Sweat nose, molasse, wine-ish, grainy, red berries. Taste is malty, not as sweet as expected, hoppy and wine-cask flavors. Tart and dryish, low carbonation (bottled 14.09.2018/bbe 14.09.2043).

Aus der Flasche (bottled 14.09.2018/bbe 14.09.2043) im 2022-04 getrunken. Dieses dunkel-rotbraune Bier kommt mit einer deutlichen Getreidearomen daher. Dazu kommt noch ein Trockenfrucht-Aroma. Alles das verheißt das dieses Bier dann am Gaumen sehr süß sein wird. Doch nein, ob es nun das Weißwein Fass oder die Hopfenauswahl war, es bringt ein spannende Ergebnis mit einer feinen Bitterkeit wie ein klassich Englisches Barley Wine ins Glas. Wenn es eine Süße hatte dann hat sich die inzwischen abgebaut. Der Alkoholgehalt ist perfekt eingebunden. Nach hinten wirkt es recht trocken. Sehr spannend!

Petite déception pour cette #3000, Black Barley Wine vieillies en fût de vin blanc, qui n'est pas autant dénaturée que le Huis & Haard mais qui au travers de ce barriquage perd de sa sucrosité et de gourmandise et qui présente un alcool à 14,6 % très prononcé qui n'est pas tout à fait dans le rythme de la bière. L'ensemble reste cependant satisfaisant mais loin d'être orgasmique. Le visuel n'est pas exceptionnel avec un brun laiteux sans mousse. Le nez est sur la noisette, le raisin, le vin, le candy, figue et caramel et l'alcool. La texture est fine pour un Barley Wine mais les arômes présentent une bonne complexité avec de légères épices qui apparaissent à l'attaque. L'alcool commence à monter en tonicité et intensité à partir de la seconde bouche. A ce stade celui-ci s'allier encore correctement à la base du Barley Wine, ce qui n'est plus le cas e arrière bouche et sur le final où c'est un alcool sur les devants en mode spiritueux qui s'impose. Pas convaincu.

A deep dark reddish brown barley wine with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with loads of vinous notes, treacle, plums, green grapes, light funk, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity caramel malt with loads of dark fruits, vinous character, light licorice, alcohol warmth, very nice and complex. On tap at Saint Bock.

Tap @ Borefts. Deep dark brown color. Roast, Apple syrup in the vinous aroma. Malty roasty alcoholic flavor. Floral and vinous.

Dark brown to auburn with a creamy head. Aroma full of prunes, white wine and toffee. A crazily diverse range that somehow comes together. Not exactly harmony, but no clashes either—each takes its turn. Taste is sweet up front, full of chocolate, ends with a tartness and lingering notes of white wine. Only complaint is the strength—the finish is just too boozy with a very warm bite at the end. Good in small doses as a dessert beer.

0.33l bottle. Very dark ruby body with a thin pearl head. Aroma and taste of sugar syrup, caramel, toast, plums, cherries, raisins and mold. Strong as hell, but nice nevertheless.
