Draught @ Hope and Ruin, 11-12 Queens Rd, Brighton, East Sussex, England BN1 3WA. [ As Caledonian Rare Red Rye ].Clear light dark brown - red amber colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, sweet malt, brown sugar. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration, brown sugar, sugary, caramel, sweet malt. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20160802] 5-3-5-3-10

Keg tap at Wygston’s House, Leicester. Reddish brown, very translucent with a smattering of off-white head and a lot of lacing. Raw grain and redcurrant aroma. Slight metallic note. Tastes quite nicely sweet, with some spicy notes from the rye. Short to medium bittersweet finish. High carbonation doesn’t hide the watery body. It’s fairly average.

Keg pint at The Wig, Aberdeen. 4.3% ABV. Dark reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Malty and nutty aroma, hints of roast malts. Malty and nutty flavour too, moderate roasty and coffee notes, hints of ripe red berries.

Keg @ Hogshead Brewhouse, Sowerby Bridge. Clear copper coloured ale with a small head. Crisp, with a light maltiness and light sweetness to this. Its nose is malty too, with toffee notes here and eventually in its taste, whilst the rye lingers long in the palate. It takes a while for the flavours to come through. My rating for the much lower strength version for the Wetherspoon Beer Festival; Cask @ Seven Stars, Manchester. Dark copper coloured with a thick creamy head. Malty in character with some tasty raw grain and bread flavours with hints of chocolate.

Cask, on gravity at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol October 2015. Copper in colour, with a slight, off-white, head. Slightly earthy rye malts, a touch of berry fruit, caramel sweetness and a moderately bitter finish. Ok.

Cask @ The Forty Foot JDW, Dun Laoghaire [241015]
Copper brown, clear, thin frothy head, some lacing
Aroma of soft fruits, some sweet berry fruits, vague citrus, quite fruity, no usual Caley butter popcorn
Taste - Soft berry fruits, soft lemon citrus, no caley popcorn, slight acidic fruits, dab of caramel malts, not bad at all
Palate - Light body, slight sourness. Finish has some cereal and more malt, bit toasted.
Overall - Above average, good no characteristic Caley malt in here...maybe they’ve changed as I haven’t had a Caledonian beer for a long while

Fra fat på Mossy Well (Muswell Hill) klar rødlig rav med kort skum. Syrlig aroma og smak med rugbrød og røde bær. Lettdrikkelig men nokså endimensjonal.

Cask at Willow Walk. It pours clear deep amber with a small white head. The nose is simple, sweetish, toasty grain, brown bread, typical Caledonian yeast and rivita. The taste is toasty grain, brown bread, watery, drying, nuts, rivita, hint of acidity, rivita and light spice. Light body, soft carbonation and oily mouth feel. Too watery for my liking. So-so.
