Growler from Ian at Chriso’s. Decanted from firkin to cask to PET bottle, it seems! Nose of treacle, something like barrel wood, some oxidation. Flavors of treacle, tobacco, sherry, raisins, dried fig. Sweet, silky, and absolutely lovely.

Growler shared at Chris and Ruth’s pre-GBBF tasting 2015 - London. Pours clear auburn-brown with a light, creamy tan head. Rich aroma, with notes of raisin, fig, toffee. Big sweet flavor, oily, with heavy ripe and syrupy fruits. Full bodied, chewy and oily, with soft carbonation. Warming finish, thick and viscous, with buckets of syrupy fruits, dried fruits, dates, figs, some berries. Super decadent. Awesome.

Bottle thanks to Ian@Chris and Ruth’s Pre-GBBF 2015, London - dark brown coloured pour with thin beige layer. Medium sweet malty aroma and taste, cake like, with some caramel, toffee, brown sugar, dark dried fruity and nutty, lovely smooooth mouthfeel, beautiful.

Plastic take out bottle from the firkin at Chris & Ruth’s pre-GBBF shindig, 2015. Dark brown pour with a light, wispy beige head. Rich vinous nose. Dates, walnuts, toffee and treacle aroma. Rich, warming flavours of honey, toffee, chocolate caramel and plum pudding. Smoother than Leslie Phillips courting a fine filly. Lovely stuff!

Bottle straight from a firkin, thanks to Ian. It pours cloudy near black with a small beige head. The nose is rich, oily, fruit cake, figgy pudding, spice, ginger, carrot cake and earth. The taste is rich, oily, toasty, vinous, earth, port wine / PX sherry, jammy fruits, treacle, light spice, fruit cake, stewed berry and light umami with a slick, warming finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth - feel. Great depth of flavour. Rather enjoyable.

8th August 2015
Pre GBBF tasting at Chris and Ruth’s. Thanks to Ian for beer of the day! Clear deep amber beer, no head. Palate is smooth and slightly viscous, not much carbonation at all. Sweet malts - toffee caramel. Sweet sherry - quite PX like. Mellow dried fruits. Touch of spice. Light finish. It all comes together fantastically well - a big sweet pudding of a beer. Lovely! Imagine what it would be like with some gentle cask carbonation!

Hand bottle from cask at Chris & Ruth’s pre GBBF shindig; dark brown pour with a beige head, aroma has rich dark fruits, along with a hint of smoke, charcoal and some plain chocolate, mouth-feel is gloriously smooth and viscous, taste has dark fruits, caramel, dried fruits, a hint of Xmas cake, not bad for what looked like a bottle of creosote from someone’s shed.
