A very moreish rosy brown beer. Quite a simple brew for those who like their beer mild and fruity with flavours of malt and toffee blending well with a pleasant light bitterness.

Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Clear amber. Film of off white head. Dried fruit. Some nuts. Some hop. A little spice. Taste is soft, brown sugar sweet. Turns light dry. Palate is soft, and a bit sickly. Finishes light sweet. Hmm.

On cask at the Bow Bar. Appearance - amber rather than expected dark brown. Nice fluffy head. Nose - honey and cereal with just a hint of the expected hazelnuts and chocolate. Taste - again a sweet malty cereal thing is dominant and again the chocolate and nuts are very delicate but just there. Palate - light to medium bodied with a light but creamy texture and a fairly fresh finish for the style Overall - a decent brown ale. A little thin in body but more refreshing for it.

Half-pint, cask by hand-pump at Blue Bell. Bright amber coloured body. Filmy layer. Malt-fruity aromas. Mixed flavours of caramel and modest dark fruits followed by a fair bittersweet end. Smooth on the swallow. Drinks well (York 11.07.2014).

Cask at Lyric, soho. It pours clear deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is toasty, brown bread, caramel, earth and boiled sweets. The taste is smooth, sweet, caramel, dried fruits, raisin, brown sugar, candy, wood, biscuit and light toast with a slight sweet finish. Light-medium body, soft carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. A bit sweet and sticky for me. A good hit of bitterness would save this. So-so.

500ml bottle from Glug, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. Pours brown with a smooth caramel character. Nothing more to say about this I’m afraid.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 5/3/2014. Deep, reddish brown with a decent, off-white head. Nutty malts, some caramel sweetness, a hint of chocolate, some orange and berry fruits and a gentle finish. A good brown ale.

500ml bottle from the Crafty Pint, Darlington. Pours a clear copper-brown ruby colour, initial foamy tan head that quickly dissipates away and aroma of malt, toffee, fruity. Taste is malty, sweet, with dark fruits, toffee & caramel and a light lingering bitterness. Slightly watery smooth mouth feel, light to medium bodied, medium cabonation, warming finish. Nicely balanced, quite drinkable.

Bottle at Pearls Bar in the Great Western Hotel in Hartlepool. This is a very dark red ale in colour with no head. It has a sweet aroma and a milder but still sweet taste.
