Cask @ Ludlow Spring Festival May 14. Decent black IPA with bitter resin and subtle roasted elements. A nice end to a good little beer festival.

500 ml bottle conditioned, thanks to my beerpal Olav. Gyle: Oxy015. ABV is 5.5%. Very dark brown colour, large beige head. Roasty aroma, notes of woodwork and burnt breadcrumbs, some undefined hops. Dry and slightly acidic flavour, notes of woodwork, bitter hops, ashes and burnt breadcrumbs again. Could have been better.

Cask at Duchess of Cambridge. It pours darkest brown with a minimal beige head. The nose is roasted malt, wood, toffee, aniseed and orange zest. The taste is pretty bitter upfront, pine, resin, peppery, grapefruit, roasted malt, liquorice and toast with a bitter finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. A bit raw, but a solid cda anyhow.

Cask @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Black with an off-white creamy head. Has a tropical fruit aroma with a mix of fruits and roasted malts in it’s taste, with the latter aspect more prevalent in its aftertaste.

500ml bottle. Black brown-tinged colour, frothy beige foam head leaving some lacing and aroma of roasted malt, coffee, hop. Taste is roasted biscuity malt with coffee, chocolate, earthy notes and a floral citrus grapefruit hop bitterness. Tangy mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry bitter finish. Quite drinkable black IPA.

Cask at Sheffield Tap. I had this in bottle form a couple of weeks ago and that was considerably hoppier and more like an IPA than this. This tasted like a (very pleasant) roasty, nutty stout.

Bottle at home from Whole foods piccidilly. Nicely presented bottle with Foil cap, Dark caramel with ruby red notes dense long lasting cream foam. Aroms is a heady mix of sharp roast and sharp citrus hope. Some choc and earth is present as well. Flavour is driven initially by choc malt and sharp bitter roast. Then the hops come in with strong aggressive grapefruit bitterness. Finish is berry tartness and a dry chalkyness. Medium / light body medium carbonation and nice bubbles on the tongue. Decent black IPA. Bitterness is a little too agressive for me.

Bottle of Cotteridge Wines; beer styles confuse me had a BIPA earlier that tasted like an IPA that happened to be black, this one is called a BIPA but tastes like a stout and a quality stout at that. Dark roast chocolate malt flavour with only the slightest pine hop.
