Bottle 341ml.[ Courtesy of chriso ]. Unclear medium yellow orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, buckwheat, spicy, fruity - apricot, coriander. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20081214]

Very hazy orange colored body with a very thin white head. Aroma of curacao, coriander seed, apricots and alcohol. Light-bodied; strong taste with malt, apricots and bananas up front fading to nothing. After taste is completly bland - nothing of the taste shows up at all. Overall an odd beer, it starts strong then ends bland. Not really worth trying but this one is good to try from Montreal. I sampled this 340 ml bottle purchased from a small convenience cneter off of Laurier in Montreal, Quebec CA on 28-May-2006.

Heavily sedimented bottle, though leaving most behind, produces a dark bronze-iron color with very strong magenta and blood orange highlights. Very slight haziness to it and a large beige head that shows moderate retention and light lacing. Tiny bubbles course upwards in the liquid.
Sweet nose portrays a fair amount of bubble gum and cotton candy, with a moer dry, spiced side on the finish that is almost nutty, but I suppose must be dry coriander. Sweet fruits are laced throughout, extremely estery. Light powdered sugar and raw buckwheat grains soften things. Ends with a strong sense of vanilla and cotton candy again, perhaps some banana. Just phenomenally estery stuff.
Sweet in flavor as well, more bubble gum than probably is good for it, leading to a rather insipidly sweet flavor that adds minimally spicy coriander and white pepper notes. Some more banana esters and almost a cola-like note on the end, with more fluffy pale grains. Sort of reminds me of Silenrieux buckwheat ale in the soft, powdery, fluffy sweetness. The bubble gum and cotton candy, however, just seem a bit too much, and the heavy fruit esters further muddle things. Interesting and incedibly unique, without any thinning/wateriness and a very comfortable texture, but it just seems like they let this yeast go crazy and I don’t quite think this yeast needs to go crazy. No alcohol noted. Some livlier spice and more dryness with less esters would be beneficial to the drinkability.

Got this beer because of the crazy label (looks like a meteor hitting a man’s face) and was pleasantly surprised. Cheval Blanc beers tend to be very carbonated, which is a nice change from some of the flatter American beers. The color was a little darker and murkier than a true hefeweizen with a foamy white head. The initial flavor was spicy wheat, due to the buckwheat I’m sure. This beer was refreshing with a citrus finish.

Hazy golden ale with a creamy white head. Peppery celeri salt in aroma, coriander and honey. In mouth, creamy mouthfeel, good malt with coriander and ginger. A smooth one. Delicious with a marinated porkchop.

Bottle: Poured a medium brown color ale with generous head that goes away too quickly. Aroma is quite complex with definitely some buckwheat and a few spices (probably some coriander mix with something else) completed with Cheval Blanc usual yeast. Taste is quite complex with the roasted buckwheat hitting you right at the beginning and then coriander mixing quite nicely with the yeast. I waited a while until I could pick-up a fresh sample before rating this since I’ve noticed that it doesn’t aged very well.

A dark golden buckwheat (think soba) ale with a tantalizing floral spiced nose and subtle hints of buckwheat. The body is full and the buckwheat is very much present but there is also hints of spiced oranges that mix nicely. The finish is dry and buckwheat accented. Not liquid soba, but rather a well balanced American Wheat beer.
