A copper coloured bitter with a well balanced blend of malt & hops. An initial rich, malty mouth feel is rounded off by orangey / zesty hops and a touch of spice.

Cask at Smithfield Hotel & Bar. A shiny naked surface on top of a near-clear, amber coloured body. Smooth malt-fruity smell. The taste profile is made up by fresh apricots and bread-like malts. Faint bitter endnotes. So so (Manchester, 21.01.2013).

Cask at the John Russell Fox (JDW), Andover at 4% ABV. Amber with a dense cream head; a woody aroma; a grassy, herbal bitterness over a bready body; and a pleasant floral bitterness to finish. Nothing earth-shattering about this, but it’s actually a rather good bitter.

Nice copper colour with a slightly dry finish. Malt base although no real flavours outside its bitterness.

4th April 2010 was the date this bottle conditioned beer had to be drank by. It was opened and reviewed on 24th March, two weeks before. Poured carefully into an ’Old Speckled Hen’ vase shaped pint glass. Clear light amber body with a good, large bubbled, white head on top. Sadly the head fell away to leave just a collar and a few wisps. Sweetish hoppy aroma, flowery and semi-citrus at the same time. Tangy and well carbonated, almost fizzy in the mouth. The beer (according to the label) contains Barley, Wheat and Gluten, as allergy advice. It also claims all their bottled beers are vegetarian. I liked its sharpness and the bitter aftertaste as the mouth dried, which left a nutmeg/corriander feel between gulps. Not bad at all!

Cask. Deep golden colour, small white head. Aroma is caramel and crystal malts with some slight zesty and fruity notes. Flavour is quite similar as for the maltyness, but also has some slight herbal notes and nice grassy and floral bitterness. Pleasant.

Bottle at the Euston Tap. Pours a clearish, light gold with a fine, white head. Malty, spicy aroma with some earthy hops. Flavor is defined by its spiciness, with an underlying malt character and mild bitterness. Medium in body with soft carbonation. Light alcohol notes. Malt, lightly bready, and spices to wrap. Nice, interesting beer.

(Cask at Lass o’ Gowrie, Manchester, 23 July 2009) Amber colour with brief, white head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of orange and grain. Fruity, malty taste with orange, apricots, some grain and a moderate bitterness in the finish. Fairly light body, balanced sweetness. Drinkable, but hardly exciting.
