Our troublesome original release, named for the problematic first brew day which hugely emphasised its hop bitterness. It's matured and evolved nicely over the years, with us. Big tropical hop flavour from local varieties with strong bitterness from an English hop to honour its origins, all balanced by plenty of malt.

Bottle shared at Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell - London. Cheers to Big Dave! Pours clear, reddish gold with a frothy, white head. The nose holds light grapefruit and pien. Light to medium sweet flavor, a little earthy, with bitter citrus rind and dry bread. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Moderately dry on the finish, with notes of citrus, bread and pine. Not bad.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a clear copper with a light beige head that lasts throughout. Terrific lacing. Mango, pineapple and papaya with some catpiss all over the nose. Good balance with some caramel malt flavor along with more tropical fruit and grapefruit pith on the palate. As it warms some orange comes out as well. Quite bitter on the palate. Long, lingering dry and bitter finish with some light orange gelato zing as well. Fantastic.

From notes. Draft at Dukes in Wellington. Clear deep amber color, medium white head. Aroma of grassy pine. Taste is bitter and resiny pine. Tasty.

Nice caramel malt, lightly boozy, full of flavorful rustic bitterness. Finishes dry. Fill it up again, please.

Bottle from Brothers Brewery, Auckland, August 2014. Orange/amber with a small white head. Aroma and taste of hops, grass, grapefruit and some mango. The finish was bitter. A descent one.

From a 330ml bottle on 26/3/2014. Pours a cloudy copper with a medium head. Has a pleasant light, fruity, grassy, hoppy aroma. However, the taste is a bit messy, with little malt, tropical fruit, and some earthy, spicy and metallic flavours, followed by a quite abrupt, almost harsh, dry bitterness. Has a fullish body and quite lively carbonation. All up, quite disappointing.

A caramel copper pour with a foamy light beige head. Minty, grape, tropical fruit hop bouquet. Fairly light bodied, silky mouthfeel with an earthy, minty & marihuana flavor plus a mildly piney bitterness towards the end. The nose & the flavor don’t really match but the overall package is quite solid.

Craft Clerkenwell. Bottle thanks to big Dave. Chars! Hazy amber beer, good pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and very airy. Light sweetish malt. Little lactose. Mild hop skunk and spice and then tangerine led tropical fruits. Softish airy finish. Mildly bitter fruity linger. Good stuff.

Bottle. Lovely nose. Great grassy hops, floral, slightly mineral, great grass. Some tobacco. Glowing orange-amber. Dirty grassy, earthy flavor. Very bitter. Silky and full but light. A bit too bitter I would say, but nice.

Bottle thanks to Dave. It pours deep orange-amber with a medium yellow-white head. The nose is caramel, candy, toast, tropical fruits, five alive fruit juice, orange Chewits and a slight metallic twang. The taste is toasty, wood, orange peel, brown bread, earth, watery and metal. Lightish body and moderate carbonation. Nice on the nose, but a touch thin on the palate. Decent enough.
