Appearance: Dark ruby brown color with a thick white head. Ok lacing.
Aroma: Toffee, fruity and some roasted malt.
Palate: Medium body. Moderate sweet and a mild bitterness. Soft carbonation.
Taste: Toffee, roasted malt and light fruity.
Overall impression: Decent and fine porter.

Gravity cask at The Bree Louise, London. Pours clearish, ruby-brown with a very faint film. Bit of toasty malts on the nose. Flavor has a wimpy sweetness, toasty bread, slight herbal and leafy bitterness, extremely light cocoa. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Semi-dry finish, crunchy leaves, toasty malts. Nothing special.

Cask. Deep murky reddish brown colour with a mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is fruity with some roasted malts, toffee mild berries as well as some slight coffeeish notes. Flavouri s quite much the same along with caramel and some mild ashy and smoked wet wooden notes.

@ Foot of the Walk, Leith. Light brown colour. Toasty aroma with some cocoa. Fudgey cocoa notes. The sort of blandish dark malt stuff that forms the base of a good porter, but to really be good this needs another level, some more interesting characte

(Cask at Edgar Wallace, Strand, London, 26 Nov 2009) Dark brown colour with hints of ruby. Foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with coffee, dark berries and earthy hops. Malty, fruity, roasted taste with notes of freshly ground coffee, dried fruit, prunes, raisins and a generous coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body with a touch of sweetness. An excellent example of a traditional porter. Very nice!

[i] [b] Cask at the Exchange, JDW, Banbury, Oxon 28-04-08 [/i] [/b] Dark brown with beige head, chocolate, malt and hops all gather on quite a decent aroma. Taste is more of the same, but backed up with a bit of fruitiness as well, finishes dry, really quite decent and at £1.09 a pint staggeringly good value.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Slightly cloudy chestnut with a beige head; malty aroma with a touch of orange; dry to start, then a sherbert-like burst of sweetness; milk chocolate and dry to finish.

Cask-conditioned at the Crosse Keys (JDW), City of London 3/4/08. Dark-reddish brown, with a decent tan head. Aroma of powdered chocolate, red fruit and coffee. Flavour had plenty of sweet malt, with chocolate and roasted notes and a hint of a bitter finish. Enjoyable.
