Thank you for sharing RB Crew! Sampled 655 ml. bottle @ GBF 2017. Very dark brown to black, little tanned head. Nose is low roast, bark, thick syrup, something old school USA hard to pinpoint. Taste is syrupy, liquorice, low roast, good thickness, cacao, dark chocolate & some bark. Thick nice liquorice & cacao body. Pretty good stuff.

Super dark brown and almost black coloured body with a nice, two centimetre tall tan head, about 90 to 95% opaque. Aroma of rich malt, some nuts,a good deal of caramelised sugars and a hint of vanilla and smooth oak near the end. Medium to Full-bodied; Very rich, creamy malt flavour with some definite lactose and cream noticeable along with some nuts, earth, carameilsed sugars and a touch of vanilla near the end - very nice and easy going. Aftertaste is rich from the nuts, the malt and especially the soft sweetness from caramel and vanilla here. Overall, a nice and very rich beer throughout with some grain, a lot of sweetness and a smooth complexity of vanilla and nuts. Great to try if you can find it and perhaps if you already to, worth saving for a bit more to see if it mellows out even more - but its very clean right now. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Seattle (Westlake), Washington [state] on 16-February-2016 for US$8,99 sampled at home in [the real] Washington on the other end of the country on 05-May-2017.

Bottle 660ml from Wine Rack at Yarnton Nurseries, consumed at Cabbage Moors, campsite, Gt Shefford, nr Cambridge Friday 5th 2017 having just eaten a Coquelles St Jaques starter and our Lamb Siniya main course. Pours dark brown with a head that disappeared from view very quickly, there was one but it had gone by the time I was going to rate. A strange aroma, it’s a little pondy but also milk chocolate. Quite a smooth, soft beer, it’s really simple drinks a lot easier than an 8% beer should. However a 660ml bottle all to myself was hard work. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Bottle @ Chez Sophie. Pours black with tan head. Aroma of coffee and roast. Taste follows with a stout-like character, although fairly light in body. Expected more caramel, which seemed to be lacking in favour of roasted and coffee elements. Nice, just not what I was expecting from a doppelbock.

Treated as a doppelbock and poured into a lager glass, the appearance was a black color with a jet black pour with a semi-thick dark brown to black two finger head. Quickly dies off and leaves some moderate semi-sticky lacing.
The aroma starts off with a thick semi-sweet dark and bitter chocolate nibs performing the rights of a doppelbock’s sweet bready/yeasty lager-ness flowing smoothly over a light rye spice. Some milk chocolate does make a good effort to ease in with the dark chocolate. Light black licorice.
The flavor yields to the dark chocolate nibs, sweeet with the bitter edge. Bready/yeasty lager sweetness flows over the rye spice emphatically. Light black licorice. Free for all flow of the yeast riding into the aftertaste and on into the finish, that’s really nice!
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with that smooth lager feel flowing over my tongue just as it should be. Even that rye spice that’s tasted just flows right on back without any grip as it keeps it’s true to style lager-esque feel.
Overall, a true to style doppelbock with a creative edge of darkening the color and adding the chocolate and a subtle edge of rye. Beautifully and wonderfully done! Quite possibly one of the best \"creative\" doppelbocks I’ve ever had!

Large sample from one of the bottles at a tutored beer tasting in Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury on 15th Dec 2016. Correct colour for a Doppelbock, black with a cream coloured head. However I was not expecting the coffee and chocolate nose or flavours: very un-doppelbock like. Really enjoyed it, but how the brewery can call this a Doppelbock is beyond me. It’s a Porter!
