Malty with a slight citrus bitterness to it. Enough hops to grab my attention but it strikes me as more of a barley wine than a DIPA. Still, it was a good beer from start to finish. Wouldn’t mind going another round with it.

Hazy orange coloured body with a copper glow and a very thin, fast-dying head. Aroma of strong aromatic peaches, a lot of caster sugar, oranges, a touch of malt and some offputting spices at the end. Medium-bodied; Assertive fresh peaches at first with some malt and sugars following behind. Aftertaste shows some chocolate and perhaps nutty bitterness coming right after the main sweet and fruity flavours - odd indeed. Overall, a good beer in the nose, but the execution isn’t flawless and it has an overwhelming chocolate and malt character that doesn’t show well to me, especially in this category. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia on 15-April-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 06-May-2010.

Slightly hazy amber coloured body with a light copper/orangish glow and a thin off-white head. Aroma of spices, nutmeg, malt, nuts, coriander seed, meat and mushrooms and a touch of caramel. Medium-bodied; Assertive spicey flavour with some peat and metal in front of a malty and caramel finish - not much else. Aftertaste shows some spices, nuts and a rather lightish alcohol bite. Overall, a decent beer - the spices kind of work with a lighter beer, but not all the way - need more of a complex profile to pull this off. Decent, but definitely not my favourite winter beer. Copper coloured body with a light orange glow, but fairly dark for the style. No head either - fades very very fast. Aroma of honey, toffee, light hops, alcohol, apricots and pitted fruits, a touch of coriander seed and some malt. Medium-bodied; Assertive malty and caramel flavours with some light spice, mild alcohol and a touch of nuts at the tail end. Aftertaste shows some light bitterness, good sweetness and a balanced malt and hop profile. Overall, not a horrible beer, but not showing too well, especially for the style - subpar at best. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia on 16-April-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 29-April-2010.

Bottle thanks to blutt59. Pours with minimal head over a golden-amber body. Aroma is honey and grassy. Taste is honey, grassy, grainy, bitter, tea. Light bubbles. Not a lot of soul in this beer, kind of basic.

22 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a copper color with a medium head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of strange, almost tar-like malts with some herbal hops. Definitely not fruity as the commercial description. The taste is citrus, dark fruits, some earthy and nutty notes. Medium bodied. This is decent, but that aroma is a little weird.

12oz bottle. Hazy orange-amber color, nice frothy head. Big cinnamon-clove aroma. Pretty interesting in that it blends the think spiciness with a lighter, sessionable malt body. Not at all unlike a pumpkin beer, this is unapologetic in it’s overboard spicing. I can appreciate a unique winter beer, and this is certainly unique. Captures an almost creamy Belgian Golden Ale combined with the spicy characteristics of an American Pumpkin Ale. OK.
