Very hazy and chunky muddy brown coloured body with a large frothy tan head. Aroma of malt, light spices, a touch of earth, some minor fruits and even more malt - potent. Medium-bodied; Assertive malt flavours with some sweetness soon afterwards and a good earthy, nutty flavour that lasts quite a while. Aftertaste shows more malt than anything else, a touch of alcohol and fruits with the muddy earthie notes behind. Overall, a nice dunkel with perhaps more of a focus on the malt than the other complexities, but a nice beer nonetheless. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Bon Vivant Market in Smithfield, Virginia on 14-October-2010 for US$2.25 sampled at home in Upstate New York (New Paltz) on 07-May-2011.

Bottle, solid extremely long lasting head with some lacing, hazy dark orange colour, biscuity aroma with notes of orange marmaldae and some fruity hops in the back, malty cake flavour with white fruits and some herbs, gets better and more balanced as it warms up, long and lingering sweet bitter aftertaste. Quite good.

Bottle. Beer of the month club. Hazy amber color with a big white head. Hoppy aroma of grapefruits, floral and piney notes and some caramelly/biscuity malt notes. Flavor starts sweet and malty with some caramel and biscuits and some citric hops in the background, then turns more hoppy and fruity with floral notes and a nice bitterness (although some sweet maltiness stays there all along). Medium-bodied. Maybe a bit too much on the malty side for me, but still tasty and quite easy-drinking for an 8.5% beer.

Bottled at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Clear amber, small head. Fruity nose with mild grapefruity hops. Medium-full bodied with clean, rounded mouthfeel. Lots of caramelly buttery malt, balanced somewhat resiny bitterness. A well made relatively malty ale.

Re-rate 5/16/12: Bottle. Beer of the month club (again...) Slightly hazy deep golden with medium white head. Aroma has decent citric and slightly floral hops. Flavor starts with some malt, slightly sweetish and caramelly, and continues bitter with floral and grapefruity hops. Medium-bodied. Pretty nice. 6/3/7/3/14=3.3

Bottle. Beer of the month club. Hazy deep golden color with a big white head. Nice floral and citric hops in the aroma. Flavor has some slightly caramelly malty sweetness at first, and lots of tasty, crisp, grapefruity hops bitterness, that is getting big in the long, lingering finish. Medium-bodied. A good American Pale Ale. 7/4/7/3/14=3.5

12 oz bottle sent to me by Suttree. 1361 printed on the label. Pour is a hazed orange copper with a nice 1 1/2 inch light tan head. Head falls with patchy lacing. Random carb bubbles float to the surface, nice looking beer. Aroma is sweet caramel biscuit malt, along with orange fruit and a ever so faint and mild pepper spice yeastiness. As this warms, the pepper is really more of an earthiness. Taste is the malt up front, nice and full grain, along with the caramel sweetness, moving towards a bit of resin citrus orange and pine hops, though still more balanced towards the malt. Nice balance, clean. The finish reintroduces the earthiness, mineral. Palate is medium bodied, aftertaste lingers, though really no alcohol presence despite the elevated ABV. Nice one, thanks Phil.

A deep dark brown IPA with a very thin moka head. In aroma, nutty chocolate, lightly hopped, vinous notes. In mouth, an interesting bitter chocolate, roasted coffee, musky and nutty, nice. Cask. On tap at Brewvival, Feb. 26 2011.

Tap at 16 Taps in Wilmington. Clear golden color, small white head. Aroma of peach jelly. Tastes like a lager with peach juice and sugar added. Lagers and fruit generally don’t mix.

From the beer of the month club. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy orange-amber color with a medium sized foamy orange-white head that lingered and produced good lacing. The aroma was moderately sweet caramel, light molasses and faint notes of pineapple and pine. The flavor was sweet and syrupy with moderate caramel, pine, pineapple and bread. A bit harsh in the hoppiness. The finish was long, sweet and piney. Thick and syrupy body. Interesting.
