What we have here is a nicely crafted and tasty IPA. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle the beer pours a nice bronze color with a large tan head. The aroma is floral and hoppy. The flavor is surprisingly sweet and has a nice floral hop presence. The hops are strong but not overwhelming and the malt balances fairly well. However I have always felt that a beer called Hop Devil should be more strongly hopped than this one is.

Pours is a think looking yellow with a large fluffly white head. Aroma is hoppy mixed with some floral goodness. Flavor is of course hoppy but probably not the hoppiest IIPA i have had. I also got some pine and the usual citrus. Very dry tasting beer. Its good but i’ll stick with the hop devil.

Bottle Pours a clear medium amber with a decent offwhite head that was short lived. The lacing however is thin but even and persistant. Aroma is mainly hops but there is something else, smoe vanilla or butterscotch. Flavors are a sharp hoppy bite but sweet and offset enough to be easily drinkable. Not nearly as strong as the few other IIPAs but decent none the less. Plenty of sweet woody notes and moderate carbonation. Aftertaste is a typical hop bite that fades in short order. Not bad. Thanks to goldtwins for this one

Bottled, thanks tiggmtl! Deep golden. Aroma of hay and malt. Very sweet and very hoppy, soft mouthfeel. Biscuity malt is there to balance the hop assault. Really bitter finish. Very pleasant, apart from excessive sugaryness.

Fully clear golden-orange; orangeish, crème-like head. Initial nose dried hops in bales & chaff, going over to full fresh very flowery but dusty hops, rather British. Very powerful hops initially, then changing to cookie malt, sweetish, some citrus, before going to bitter hopflavour. Imagine a spacecake with sugared oranges, filled with humulus lupulus instead of cannabis sativa. Finishes almost harsh-bitter. Bit agressive burning; medium bodied. Like a British IPA concoction, amongst the better, but not outstanding ones.

Bottled 10/23/03 from the cellar on 12/14/04. Opaque black with a substantial tan head that receded quickly, lacing the glass as it fell. Chocolate and coffee with rich malts in the aroma. This has a very creamy dry palate, extremely smooth. Bitter espresso comes onto the tongue first, some chocolate at the back. Complex flavors and palate mask the alcohol well. I first tried this in June and was disappointed, the cellar has definitely improved this one.

Secret Santa beer #3, sent by Jason (Dorwart). Clear light amber body, thin creamy off-white head leaving decent lacing. Rindy, resiny hops aroma with notes of sweet caramel. Flavor is an all-out hops assault with big resiny, sticky grapefruit and tangerine rind, pretty much overwhelming the malts and leaving a long, fairly intense bitter aftertaste. Ruinous on the palate. We’ve always had firewater; now we have hopwater. Not the best I2PA IMO.

On tap at the Syracuse Holiday Brewfest Dec.04 2004. Light copper ale. Sweet pleasant floral hops aroma. Good sustained hops with chunks of grapefruits. Medium bodied, well balanced, considering the bitterness. Always a good beer.

A hazy orange beer with an orange head. The aroma is very hoppy, but also sweet. The flavor is very sweet with notes of fresh hops, like sticking your head into a hop bush, this leads up to a rather bitter end almost like sucking on a lemon.

Bottled. Good hop nose in the glass. Pours a nice Sierra nevade brown under an off-white head. In actual taste, though, hops are not as smacky as one would believe. instead, they start out understated, a nice peppery and grassy start. The toasty malts makes a nice sticky coating in the mouth, allowing the bitterness to linger and become more pronouced, until it finishes full strength. Part of my trade with DocLock.
