Description
Williams Bros Brewing Company is a Scottish family-owned microbrewery, founded and operated by brothers Bruce and Scot Williams.

The Williams Bros. Brewing Co. started life in the humble ‘Glenbrew’ homebrew shop in Glasgow. The first beer brewed was the ‘Fraoch’ Heather Ale at a small 5-barrel brewery in Taynuilt, After the 2nd year of brewing in the Taynuilt brewery and with demand far out stripping supply the brothers decided to expand and also to diversify the range with five Historic Ales. These ales were produced at the new purpose built brewery and premises in Craigmill, Strathaven from 1998-2004.

In 2004 the brothers took over the ‘Forth Brewery’ at Kellibank, Alloa where Maclay’s had been contract brewing and packaging their beers since the sale of their old Alloa brewery. It was at this stage in proceedings that Heather Ale Ltd became Williams Bros. Brewing Co.

Bottle. Deep brown, clear beer with a beige head. Roasted, coffee-like aroma with a weak fruityness. The flavor is a bit weak, with roasted malt and hints of fruityness. A bit thin body. A surprise from Heather Ales, nice aroma but a bit boring flavor. Rating: 6-4-6-3-12-3.1. (070216)

Bottle. It pours an almost headless, unclear, dark brown body. Just a few beige bubbles round the rim. Roasted, coffeeish nose with some dried fruits. A little sour touch too. Almost powdery in the mouth, medium body-fullness. Roasted, coffeeish flavor with some chocolate and a fruity hint. Not much bitterness found, but some roasted bitterness is present. The finish is more on the chocolate side than on the coffee side. Quite nice, but a bit ordinary. (090525)

Bottle from Utobeer. Clear amber body with a thin white head. Smell of dark berries. Light mouthfeel with taste of sweet, black currant supported by malty notes. Diluted. Unusual, but pretty fair (03.02.2007).

330ml bottle sampled with Magne and CinnamonGirl at The Rake in London. Very inviting with a rustic brown body under a tan head. Burnt, peaty smell. Dark malty texture with hints of both chocolate sweetness and salty grass. Sophisticated! (01.02.2007).

bottle - Pours clear and straw colored with a thin head. Smells sweet and malty. The flavor is malt and those mild, sour gooseberries. The body is on the thin side while the finish is actually kind of refreshing. Not bad.

Bottled. Golden, unclear ale, topped off by an off-white head. Fruity and honey-ish aroma with some berries. The flavor has a tad sourness, else it is malty and honey-ish, with some bitterness and herbal notes, as well as some sweetness. Medium body. Definately not bad, just a bit odd. Not unexpected from Heather Ales though. (061228)
